NGS today average of 3k players on steam.
But compared to the Japanese server which we dont know the number of players it still garners 15,000 viewers on youtube livestreams which is the only way we could measure. Compared to Global that only has 1000 viewers on livestream.
Its always been a niche game that attract players that into anime dress-up rather than raiding/guildwars unlike other MMO.
It does have a unique action combat where you fight mid air that for now no other action combat MMO offers.
And the player housing lets you customize a island with 6000 objects.
You can do your dailies in under 15mins, then you do nothing or chat in town with anime wierdos.
It's a free2play game, the only cost is your time if you dont like it.
Most of the active forum users here no longer play the game its best to ask in the PSO2 social media if you looking for positive comments.
Keep in mind the base game only went down because we all pretty much knew that PSO2 was done. And as we can see that fear came true. Truth is when the base game was active it had more players then NGS. I mean the lowest base ever got was 8k then NGS got announced and of course then people stop playing. After the initial hype for NGS ended on August NGS didnt even reach the minimum 8k of the base game till this day.
This should also answer OPs question on how popular this game is.
That being said i would also be careful about Luxaeternas advice asking your questions in social media. Depending on what you ask you get banned right away. They really dont like people asking the wrong quesstions so be aware of that.
Look at the recent MMOs
Losk Ark 1.3M on 1st Month
New World 900k on 1st Month
PSO2 was never that popular it was always a niche dress up anime game. It was even mocked as a scifi monster hunter during its launch in 2012.
User here complain about combat, yet majority of the PSO2 players went to games with less combat feature. In fact most of the former PSO2 players base are in the Blue Protocol forum excited for a game with less combat mechanics and less character customization.
Beside my point will proven in a matter of hours that majority of the user comments here will tell you not to play.
The only positive comments you will get is in social media.
im still here im stiill play this game , im not hard core PSO2 gamers i dont know much detail about PSO2 and im not a streamer , im just like you all nube or just a normal player out their run around and get kick by boss mob , i will answer some question if i know if i dont know i leave it be
Thats a strawman argument tho.
I compare NGS with ITSELF and showed multiple times that WITHIN the fanbase of PSO2/NGS the playercount decreased drastically with NGS. True Lost Ark and New World any many other games also have decreasing number thats normal however unlike PSO2 they all had to build their fanbase FROM SCRATCH. The global release of PSO2 was long awaited by fans and most people that played on global already played on the JP servers.
So unlike the games you named NGS is skydiving the player count of a decade old fanbase and NGS even ruined all hope of getting new people into it with the extremely horrible release it has. So lets stop pretending PSO2 was a new game when it had its global release shall we ?
Last time I attempted to join a guild in an MMO, it was full of a-holes who felt autism and other mental disabilities were grounds to mock people with said disabilities.
Nothing but toxicity and attempts to make anyone different feel bad. And they expected everyone in the guild to join in on the mocking.
Blegh.
You're being kind to NGS, it hasn't gotten 3k average in a single day in a long time. It's more like 2k.
