Way to start in original PSO2?
Title, basically. Is there a way to start a new character in PSO2 outside of having to do the rigamaroll of creating a new character, starting in New Genesis, logging out, and THEN going into PSO2?

If so, how? If not, where can I get a download for the original PSO2 so I can start from that side?

I know, and I've already done it. That's not what I'm asking. I'm asking if I can get dropped directly into the original PSO2 immediately after chargen, instead of doing all... that.

Can't you just make your character, watch/skip NGS' beginning cutscene and then immediately log out to title screen, select your ship and character again and pick PSO2? :surprised_yeti:
At least I remember doing something like this back when NGS launched as I wanted to check the damage on PSO2 first... :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

No, PSO2 Vanilla is locked until finishing the tutorial. But its character based, no acc-wide.

So you need to finish with that character. From there you'll get the option to log in directly to PSO2 on that char. Without needing going to Ryuker as he said.

Not anymore. Looks like they absolutely force you through NGS' tutorial.

No. You can't.
This is probably one of their most aggressive ways of poking at you to say "PSO2? You SURE you want to play THAT? You COULD be playing THIS instead! Don't play THAT."

It's incredibly obnoxious, and almost condescending But get used to it, cos they REALLY want you dropping PSO2 for NGS..

That never worked. I tried that on the day of release and while the option to Start PSO2 was there, it remained grayed out until I unlocked Ryuker Devices.

It was like that since first day.

Skip only apllies to alts, just like PSO2 tutorial.

Actually PSO2 have the same tutorial thing...the difference now is that u need to do NGS one instead.

There should be a choice though. Start in the base game and play through its tutorial, or start in the addon and play through its tutorial.

This. This right here.

It's like Sega has some kind of hangup about releasing PSO2 to the west. It took them eight years to bring it to the US, and then only let it kick around for a year before, from what I can tell, try to replace it entirely.

It should be a choice, but this is not the first time Sega has done this to Phantasy Star Online 2 (Episode 4 forced players into the new story and you had to unlock "Episodes 1-3" partway through Episode 4 via the the Omnibus - and Episode 5 ended up trying to push away Episode 4 so you had to pick either Episode 4 or 5 to start with and had to unlock the Omnibus through either path).

It should have been an option from the beginning to pick either Phantasy Star Online 2 or New Genesis - but unfortunately in New Genesis you are forced to go to the prologue with your first character or will be forced to enter Central City at least once with another character (you can literally hop into the city and then hop out to unlock the "PSO2" option in the character select screen).

I agree with this whole heartedly. Recently got a friend into PSO2, New Genesis is his first experience. After hours of playing and tutorial running he points out basic things the game doesn't mention, and I mention its from base game so they probably assume everyone knows. His reaction was "THEN WHY DON'T THEY HAVE US DO BASE GAME FIRST?"
