So... YSOK has left SEGA
Only just learned that he left.

Sad to see devs that actually play the game and is good at it leave. Still remember him being on PSO2 Station and showcasing things for EP6, playing Luster live on stream and kicking ass. Yea... until COVID hit, the streams were live back then, none of these pre-recorded Headline stuff we have now. They would interact with people watching the stream and have Twitter polls that they announce the results towards the end.

He has joined MyDearest Inc, and working on an upcoming VR game called Brazen Blaze - you can go find the steam page for it.

tbqh, it makes sense. SEGA's direction has been generally away from Phantasy Star or videogames in general and towards gacha scratch virtual gambling in casual rhythm games, where the real money is at. It was already likely a very hard place to work, like any old-hat japanese corporation will be, so joining a younger upstart developer is likely a better choice.
This happened a lot with older talent in the japanese games industry, especially during the 90s/00s at squaresoft, or bamco. Wolfteam, for instance, did very little work after being acquired by Namco before splitting off into Tri-Ace.

The only person to go down with a sinking ship is the one getting paid the most to do so and who works the least.

Yes, he was "Item part director" but his name was apparently replaced during the ver2.0 update in June.

News kinda blowing up on JP side today

He's a gamer, not a director. So basically he dumped freebies in the hope of reviving base PSO2(Jp). If you were there during the real pso2 ep6, not global. You'll see the fluffing with overtuned new class, cradle farming, UH, rainbow keys and extreme content drought occurring as EP6 actually lasted 2 years (Global people, the toxic ones anyway, whine cycle is weekly...They will probably melt away if they were in Japan). Both JP players and developers under him are not pleased at all.

Also it has been several years since YSOK has been actively involved in PSO2 development. So probably another drama mama necromancy I guess.

Ah yes, because Global players totally strong armed Sega into accelerating the updates for the game.

Also Global has experienced what Japan has, or did you forget which game you are posting under?

Also funny how you say that players didn't like this director when it seems that the best times were under him by far. I can agree that maybe the suits might not be pleased but that is probably more because he might have spent more resources in making a game instead of just putting it all into more gacha costumes.

But hey, don't forget that we are only on Year 3 of the 10 year plan, only 7 more years till the game is good. Although that would need this director to come back and do everything in the end...

Can you blame him ? I guess even he didnt enjoy playing the game anymore let alone keep ruining it so why bother staying ?

Hope he finds joy where he is now and pleasure in what ever project hes working on next.

Not surprised if he did. The current director is driving Phantasy Star into the ground and SEGA only seems to care about scratch tickets....

Ysok did great work on episode 5 and 6 especially with the amount of work he was forced to do on episode 5 due to hamazaki's incompetence back in base.

Seems like you didn't backread the contents of JP-ngs-General of pso2discord and see the "bad things" YSOK did to the game like Cradle triggers, Fixa, Kvaris gearing etc.
That and Rogue's post shows he's not much of a loss at this point.

Lets ignore the fact that YSOK also just follows orders and just pretent its all his fault shall we ?

Also Kvaris gearing sadly was the best gearing progression we had in NGS till now. Kvaris was the only zone that gave you a BiS weapon without praying to RNGsus for months. All you had to do was play the game and farm Mats with relative high chances because of the Yellow Box farming method. So it gave you a reason to log in and you didnt burn out as fast because you actually saw progress in your farm towards your end goal. Sure the Ice resistance was bullsh*t but that was also something YSOK had no saying in.

So calling the best farming in NGS "bad" is just being dishonest. And if you had read Rogues post you would know that YSOK for years now did NOT have an active developing role. So all the bad things in NGS you wanna give him credit for he as i said had NO SAYING about it at all. He can give ideas and input but what the development team does with it...well.....THAT is where the bad stuff comes from.

Sure YSOK had some really questionable attempts in saving base PSO2 in the past but lets be real here at least he tried didnt he ? Now that no one does anything for base where is it ? Exactly. Decaying.....slowly. A corpse waiting to rot away. And lets be real here if it wasnt for YSOK and the other competent developers there wouldnt be an Episode 6 anyways let alone EP5. Hell i bet he and his team are the reason why EP5 was even playable considering how horrible the gameplay loop was.

So all in all you should be more thankful that he tried instead of putting the blame on him for trying. After all NGS is the perfect example of a game where the developers DONT try.

Gonna be honest, I played JP since episode 4, and I think episode 6 under YSOK was one of the best states the game had been in. Most of the problems I experienced during episode 6 were because of NGS being announced and everyone going into "NGS waiting room" mode. Honestly at this point I have very little hope that NGS will ever be a good game, especially with what state we're in roughly 4 years later. NGS has been, and will continue to be, a parading of the corpse that is PSO2. It makes sense that if you chose the worst director you've ever had to be your games director, you won't know how to fix your game either.
Kyomu7641 Jan 14, 2024 @ 7:48pm
Actually he's bad at making items tbh. You can see how bad the design from game start to these days, the copiums armor, questionable power creep weapons, ridiculous super rare weapons, the power diff from bis gears vs easy achieveable gears.
The guy definitely a hero in PSO2 classic for what he do at ep6 but he just gone worse in NGS, so changing the items makers position is good for NGS.

Unfortunately the main issue that is causing ngs to not gain any form of extra playerbase is the fact HMZK is in charge, some ideas might be cool on paper but when you go cheap low effort it shows.

With a better head lead we might see some better content, years later we finally got PQ customization and alliance custom but it is still late to the party.
