Now there has been NEW content, but the gameplay loop is the same. However, there's a huge patch coming on June 6 that is suppose to fix everything. Personally, I doubt it will, but I am keep my hopes up.
My recommendation to you: Wait and see what happens on June 6th. Otherwise, play NGS as a side game.
Oof. First of all - "minimun"? lol.
But seriously... calm down. I didn't enjoy NGS... but I want to. I'm just trying to find out if I can enjoy it yet. I'm not attacking you for enjoying it. I don't care if you play Hello Kitty: Island Adventure, that's your deal, and I'm glad youre happy.
Hope things get better for you lol
Classic PSO2 was a chore if your free2play, you can barely afford anything equipment and cosmetics if you dont play your alts. For many user here have the time to waste to do dialies, side mission, triggers, UQ, Material grind for 3 characters that would take 4-5+ hours per day. And even dare to call that 'good content'.
But in terms of more gameplay content along those lines, I would imagine we would have to wait until June and August (they mentioned a new quest type would come in August ahead-of-time) to see how things unfold from there.
The gameplay has become more action-y but remains simpler and more consistent than Phantasy Star Online 2 at least so far - until you play the two newest classes (Waker and Slayer).
For the "action game" element, they still the same. Fluid, but riddled with uninspiring stage design.
For the "costume" element, it is improved, cuz now the economy is better. Now you can get decent amount of meseta by selling event capsules. Economy wise, it is improved.
As for the "story" still below average. They trying hard to be serious and dark, but it just not working.
For "gearing", it is extremely easy to catch up to level max, but min maxing is kinda useless and expensive.
Overall. If you don't enjoy fashion. Just play something else and hop in when you want to play.
The game is a social game with small portion of action segment.
There is quite a bit more to the game, but next month (June) is a major rebrand for the game with a whole new start. As it is now, "ver.1" of the game is complete and you can now see what Sega intended for us to get all along about two years ago with New Genesis, but next month (in two weeks) is supposedly going to be the start of "PSO2 2."
Thanks for the reply! And everyone else's for that matter. Didn't know about the upcoming "complete" version being released. I'll hop in and check things out around then.
The main issue is that NGS oversimplified everything to the point that it's too dumbed down.
Did i miss something ?
Didnt you always praise how good the combat is and how much skill it requires ? I am surprised.
"Duel quests", but that translates to "you fight the same bosses you've already fought but solo and with their stats boosted to the point where you're encouraged to make a new set of gear with 'vs. duel quest' added stats to it". Utterly pointless, non-content, DEFINITELY another attempt at a "money sink".
"Geometric Labyrinths", the closest thing you can point to as "repeatable content", a series of floors pulled from a randomized pool, with sets of conditions you can fulfill to boost your score. Also to boost your score: a way to pick ways to tie your hands behind your back or boost enemy stats to make it harder. You couldn't fill out parties with randos for the longest time, now you can. (nobody really does these anymore cos the rewards aren't worth it)
"Geometric Labyrinths, PART TWO!", which it really isn't, it's just "fight a boss, then a floor with enemies and another boss, the 3rd floor has a boss that's TWO BOSSES OMG". It's in-name-only, barely qualifies as "new content".
"Cannonball", you have two variants, both of which come down to "throw things at targets, you win by clearing targets, throwables appear by beating enemies that appear after you hit targets, you balance between clearing fast but also beating as many enemies as you can before hitting the last target". One variant is "casual", has maps pulled from a random pool, and garbage rewards, so nobody cares. The other variant is "serious score mode", has only one map (because EFFORT), with max level enemies in it, and nobody cares (unless it's part of a weekly challenge for badges) because the rewards are trash.
You can replay Cocoons/Towers now, with a score/time goal, with the same system as the Labyrinths. Again, nobody cares unless you want titles or it's part of weekly challenges for badges.
"Ordinal Tower", which is just 7 levels of boss fights set for specific level ranges, meant to give people rewards suitable for those level ranges. You'll probably never both doing levels 1-6 again once you've done them once for the main rewards, unless you're doing 3 runs of level 1 to fulfill the (insipid) "do three runs of this in a week" weekly task. Level 7 is the "money shot" for it, where you're tasked with fighting 3 bosses (they're always the same ones), or 2 of those bosses plus a choice of 1 of 2 "bonus bosses" for a score boost. Again, tho, rewards are kind of trash now, but finishing level 7 with a class for the first time gets you a set of almost-fully-ground/augmented weapons for that class that are decent enough for the level you can do it at.
If that sounds like they didn't add much lasting new content... they didn't. The main gameplay loop is still "do your dailies/weeklies, go to a combat zone and chase a yellow E around, then either get bored and do something else or subject yourself to the cringe-fest that are the lobbies now". Once you hit max level, there's not much else to do anymore, actual gameplay-wise. ( there is no meat to the bones of this game )
Going to have a big belly laugh at all the people waiting on "VERSION 2" of this trainwreck. they are not going to "A Realm Reborn" this thing, who are you kidding
Super glad you enjoyed it! Did you interact much with PSO2 (or PSO in general) before this?
Just curious.
i feel similar. but because NGS is pretty short. I even made 2 characters on max level. even if not necessary. I have a Female and male character. all the things for men that i don't need, from the tickets for example. or store other things, where I have no idea what to do with it for now. I played Base PSO2 with the female character up to 40. until now.
Both versions of the game have their pros and cons for me. I hate and love parts of both versions. I'm playing the version I'm in the mood for.
my first PSO, started it out of boredom and a little curiosity.
200 hours of fun, yes, but something goes wrong that makes my time feel wasted, of what felt like an almost dead game. as a long term occupation it is not so good. like other MMOs.
when I just want to stand around and chat to flaunt my outfits, I can play Second Life or something?
