Sure, all the maps, textures of the maps, sound, (not sure if music due to the jukebox?), etc is gone.
I am more worried about the clothes and emotes. How will a cut-down NGS client "see" players with basewear from pso2 classic.. or how do they look, when they emote?
It's kind of sad, they didn't made a "live download" feature, where "missing content" is just downloaded on the fly. Trackmania did that on players with a custom avatar or custom car.
Ok, I can think it's horrible when entering the pso2 classic lobby the first time (that's why that should remain already installed). On classic maps like "Forest"... oh boy, thats a ton to preload.
In its current implementation (the Japanese version where this was already a day-one feature and Global's PlayStation version), the only things that do not work are Music Disks that are specifically tied to the older game (collaborations, concerts, and so on) but even with the "optional" download a great deal of Phantasy Star Online 2 is still downloaded alongside New Genesis.
from the old rpg series
to the dreamcast - gamecube -xbox version with multiplayer
then ps universe and expansion
then think came pso 2 , then genesis
not sure oh right was a ds game
and also i think a psp game or two
oh crud frogot was a card battle one too i think on xbox?
phantasy stars always been a hit series which will keep on rolling
now im wondering what came first
phantasy star or sonic and which became famous first
The first Phantasy Star was released first in the year of 1987. The first Sonic was released in 1991.
Which one became famous first ? Well. There is a reason why Sonic is Segas Mascot. So even with a 13 year headstart Phantasy Star didnt manage to become a famous gaming Franchise. That however is mostly because Final Fantasy was its competition and Sega couldnt hold a candle to that.
You could say the reason why PSO is just a niche franchise is because it started as a bootleg Final Fantasy and never recovered.
phantasy star and final fantasy
id say there both fine series in there own means
just like how some older rpgs were fine in there own way
one phantasy star had you playing through the ages as descendants
an neat idea which i dont think FF ever did till that old one with cecil they made a sequel with his son so long after
sonic being easier run jump dash normally, boss time was the tough part
phantasy star was more strategic being an rpg series
honestly dunno which ive played more of
sonic or phantasy star , old ones even more toughie
but thank you for the information
also calling one game a bootleg of another is a rather offensive
everything copys off another thing, ff copied off other games most likely
and most likely still does, still love the series though
What did you expect when talking about Sega. A company that literally is known for doing bootlegst ?
They did Phantasy Star because Final Fantasy was a huge profit maker. They did Sonic because Mario made big money. And Bayonetta is literally Dante with boobas.Sega literally did nothing first themself. They only copy what worked. Thats the reason why Sega is,was and always will be last place.
Next example would be NGS.
Genshin and Genshin-ish games took off. What does Sega do with the next big PSO entry ? Make it a bootleg Genshin game but give it the Sega touch. The Sega touch being make the world as empty as possible. And people rtather play a game where they need to gamble for their character then NGS which speaks volumes.
Calling Sega a bootleg company is offensive yes. Reality most of the time is offensive. Hence why people dont wanna hear it.
Genshin cameout of 2020, NGS came out 2021. If SEGA can make a Genshin like game in just 1 year that really is impressive.
Except that...its not.

Xenoblade Chronicles X(2015) clone is a more accurate Xample, given that NGS was said to have begun development around 2018.
from Xenoblade Chronicles X Wiki
The story sounds familiar right?
Wow.
Its only 2 years and you already forgot how extremely empty this game started out. Thats impressive.
What exactly do you believe was the development time for Bootleg Genshin Aelio Region ? It was literally 3 days worth of content.
I am trying to say to you its a Xenoblade Chronicles X clone not Genshin Impact. From the Graphics and the Story. From 2015 of Xenoblade Chronicles X launch to 2021 NGS launch is more than enough timeframe to create a new game.
But you are trying to insist that SEGA can create a new game within September 2020-June2021, you claim that Sega can create Genshin Impact clone in just 10 months, whilst datafarmers were already are able to dig content of Kvaris and Retem.
Since I already presented by evidence that its a Xenogears clone, and you still dont believe then I rest my case if my evidence presented isnt enough proof,
The closest RPG that Phantasy Star was would be Dragon Quest because of the first person combat and dungeon exploration that is reminiscent of the computer RPG crawlers like Wizardry.
Nope, Alex Kidd was supposed to be the main competitor of Super Mario Bros since it was planned to be more RPG with more lore and levels (although Kid Cameleon was the one game that plagiarized SMB the most). Sonic was conceptually far from Mario Bros.
It's like saying two rock music from the 70's one month appart was plagiarism because both are rock.
You literally just proved my point.
Most of the work went into the new engine and of course game data and Worldbuilding. We literally just had an empty world with a handfull of enemys and completely run down classes (which they still are compared to PSO2).
Its the other way around really. You wanna tell me Sega would need more then 10 months making a completely empty Map a 1 hour story and a few enemys. This isnt some Indie Dev buddy.
Of course there was data for Kvaris and Retem already. Both zones just as empty as Aelio and it still took them "MONTHS" finishing just one of them and even more months finishing the other.
Nothing and i mean literally NOTHING indicates that Sega actually worked on the gameplay before the release. Gameplay was slowly coming with each update and we still haven reached a point where its good. Bosses till the Final Dark Faöz are a just a joke and dont let us talk about how casual this game has become. It was casual before yes but never on this extreme level. However its plain obvious that something was changed about the game in the middle of development otherwise the release wouldnt have been so barren. If this really was supposed to be a Xenoverse clone then i am interested in the excuses you can come up with why the release was a pile of steaming dog dung.
And why would that matter ?
Back then when you had the choice between FF and PS you went for FF. Its literally history proved we dont need to argue about that. That fact stayed true till today. People rather play FF Online instead of PSO2/NGS.
But thats Sega for you i guess. Keep milking the few poor hardcore fans until they are dry. I mean they do that with Sonic for a very long time now and they will do so with PS. Sonic could have died with dignity but that chance is gone and PS will see the same fate.
So there's a couple things wrong here...
Final Fantasy always had Steampunk and Sci-Fi elements. They were just understated compared to the strong fantasy overtones. As for 7, it actually has much the same "sci-fi" atmosphere as 6, almost identical, outside of the difference between the starting zones. 7 starts you in a distopian sci-fi city, and 6 only shows you the distopian sci-fi city before cutting to a quiet mountain town. They even share a lot of the same theming, probably because the director for FFVII is a known hack who can only copy other people and never does anything original or unique.
That said, Phantasy Star came out two days after Final Fantasy, and Final Fantasy was actually a pretty unknown game from some nobody developer called Square that made like idk some weird NES STGs that kinda sucked and they were going out of business anyway, so all of no one in game development paid any attention to/tried to spy on anything Square was doing at the time. I'm not sure Square was even noteworthy as more than a one-hit wonder until Final Fantasy 3. It's kind of amazing they had any clout at all by the time the SNES rolled around, really. Kinda doubt they went from zero to hero off just one game, and I'd wager it was 4 that was their first blockbuster, going off their release pattern and normal market trends.
Phantasy Star, afaik, was actually very successful and considered to be one of the major pioneers of RPGs in Japan, and most of the world, but failed to find a market in north america due to the lack of popularity with the Master System, and general glut of RPGs on the SNES compared to the Genesis/general market divisions.
Universe was I think the first time the series started to really fail in popularity, due to the decline in subscription-based MMOs, competition from PC MMOs like World of Warcraft and the like, generally poor game design that was no longer quaint or charming, alongside the limitations of supporting the PS2 platform.
PSO2 initially turned this around with a massively successful japanese launch, but after being burned for years during the Episode 3 Content Drought, burning western fans by making it Japanese only, and generally having a very messy content cycle with an absolute refusal to patch gameplay problems and generally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ attitude towards their players, people started to give up on the game, and the numbers never really recovered.
Something the diehard whales/fanboys/paid shills never like to acknowledge is the fact that the majority of a successful game's userbase are people who don't post on forums, don't shill for the game at every opportunity, and don't actually care that much what game they're playing; they just want something fun to play with their friends that won't make them feel like garbage. SEGA is failing those players, and by extension, the entire community for this game, giving it the slow death of bleeding diehard whales and ignoring fundamental game design and UI basics.
