According to Sega business pdf last month.
https://www.segasammy.co.jp/cms/wp-content/uploads/pdf/en/ir/20230428_q4_presentation_e_final.pdf
NGS is Sega's 2ND most earning free2play game.
Despite the small population for an MMO, cosmetics sales go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
People play League despite it having fixed matchmaking.
People play CS : GO despite the game being full of cheaters.
People play BDO despite being a broken class p2w thrash.
People don't play NGS because it's neither of the above.
People play what the masses are playing despite the said games are garbage.
The X / Y / Z poppular streamer plays X / Y / Z game we should all play that game also mentality.
Sega doesnt seem to plan to put NGS on life support yet forward 2024.
All live service online games are.
Even Blue Protocol and Diablo IV in the next coming months are going to milk its players and the games that comes after them too.
Even FF14, NGS's current 'Japanese' MMO rival milks more money having cash shops despite being a pay2play service.
Even Star Citizen has milk $550,000,000 without even launching the final game.
Whether you agree or not, the previous announcement was by far the most positive the main playerbase (the Japanese players) have been. It is likely the best update yet for them for Creative Spaces alone especially for those like the Japanese players who have been asking for more social features from day-one.
Phantasy Star Online 2 was always a shameless milking factory where Sega has an idea of what they want people to "play" - and New Genesis isn't quite different from that. The value is more intrinsic where it's built more on the people you play with and what you do in the larger community as opposed to some sort of glorious treasure hunting or a grand never-before-done challenging and engaging experience.

Ares Rise of Guardians? it might be a gacha or another character based MMO like most other Korean MMOs.
I am as critical of the game as anybody, but I am 99% certain this game won't be closed down, not before they reach their original 5 year goal. Sega doesn't push for this series to be groundbreaking or a massive worldwide hit, they are completely fine with it flying under the radar and being niche. How do I know this? because it's always been this way with the PSO series.
Let's be honest, people dont play PSO2 because the game is a outfit grind simulator and for what? For ERP with some fat nerd?
The problem in PSO2 is that PSO2 have no reason to be played.
I mean, some people can get joy from it, but not the majority.
Rock / Papper / Schissors, Drawning Straws?
Why bother to reply to someone that cant even bother form their own opinion.
