No Game to play

I downloaded the game and then click start game ready to play and nothing no game is there to play I have no idea what is wrong with this game but it's disappointing that it was recommended but I can't play the game on Steam what the heck is wrong with the game!?

It is a GENUINE issue! I seriously can't play it! I click start game and nothing it's my normal screen no game yet it says it's running

try opening steam as admin mode. then try opening the game again.

Could be file corruption or missing files. Wouldn't be the first time Steam has done this to me. Best way to check if this is the problem is to download the Arks Layer Tweaker and check for missing files or if this fails, a full file check. It also has a way to check and repair Gameguard if that happens to also be the problem. Don't EVER verify game files on Steam or it will re-download the WHOLE game.

One of the guys in discord mentioned they had to reinstall it after finding over 100,000 corrupted game files, hopefully you don't have that one.

Maybe something is blocking Gameguard from being updated. Check if any AV or firewall is blocking it.

when you press play on steam it will open the launcher.
In the launcher press play again. that's how it is with me. if it doesn't start automatically.

Same issue, launcher starts, then I press start game. Get a box with the logo and gameguard on it. Then nothing. No Errors, No running processes. game just ceases running

This frequently happens with various games that have their own patches, when antivirus or firewall software incorrectly blocks them, the only solution is to either add the launcher to the whitelist or else temporarily disable them.
It could also be caused by other software running in the background which gameguard doesn't like, this is especially true for VPNs and any keyboard/moue software which enables macros or weird hot-keys that do things outside of what drivers should be able to.
If you have any unsigned software running (self-made scripts/WIP games/etc.) these will also trigger gameguard (and can trigger VAC bans too, which I found out to my detriment a few years ago...)

I'm not a techy so i have no idea what people are talking about I'm just trying to play a simple game no one tells me what to do they just say some random stuff so really it's not fair on me because I follow simple instructions explained about what to do if they go techy on me then I'm back to square one because I don't know what the hell they are talking about I've done the thing with steam which wiped it clean and it still does not work so I'm still stuck with a non-working game

Hopefully this isn't too complicated.
In Steam go to "LIBRARY" Which should show a list of all your games, go to "Phantasy Star Online New Genesis" And right click

It should bring up a menu, click on "Properties" Then it should show a menu
"General, Updates,local Files" Go to Local Files then "Verify integrity of game files..."

This should take a century but it should fix stuff.

If that doesn't work you could try searching the Pso2 Tweaker, which is a 3rd party but tons of people use it. "https://arks-layer.com/" It should show you how to install it

That is the absolute worst thing you can do with any game that has its own built-in updater, in most cases this will corrupt the installation, meaning you might have to completely delete and re-install the game to fix it, at the very least it will usually result in a "patch" that re-downloads the majority of the game to fix the issue, which will then re-cause the issue the next time there's an update.

I don't know how the f3ck, i missed this. I thought if you redownloaded the whole game of steam then it should technically get rid of the problem in it's entirety.
But it is a shame that steam has such a sh1tty system to fix things.

It reverts the files steam knows about to the state steam thinks they should be... But a lot of extra files have been added by the game's own patcher and in some cases those add bits of code that override others, but the steam versions of the files are usually slightly out-dated and don't work with the leftover newer files the patcher added.

It's not exactly down to steam's system being bad, it's down to the devs pushing patches more frequently than steam's policies will allow them to, so most devs just leave the files on the steam servers out of date and only update them for major updates...
