Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis

I guess there's now an answer (chapter 5 story SPOILERS)
So it seems we were a copy of the PSO2 MC all along.
I sorta called that. Though I thought we were Persona and not some weird Darwinist clone but hey.

I suppose that means the original MC really never did leave Matoi's side.
And they both got to die horribly when the Oracle fleet got exploded. How heartwarming.

.. wait. Along with Persona does that mean that the universe has *three* versions of the MC?
No wonder the Starless want to kill everyone. That's too much dullard for any reality.

I do like how Gepetto I mean Zephetto carefully explains the (obvious) plot and the stakes and everybody still reacts like he just said "I had people killed for no reason! lol!"
I didn't even get to ask him if he can make Manon a real girl. Tsk.

It took Phantasy Star Online 2 nearly three years after much retcons/rewrites/revisions to try pushing the story to where we see it now - and even then Sega couldn't leave it alone when both Episodes 4 and 5 had to add "something" to the Episodes 1-3 story to try and make it more coherent over time.

I recall that New Genesis started with an outsourced story which is why it started being so barren - and for it to go "as far" as it currently did it comes off to me as absolutely no surprise that what we have as "Episode 1" is extremely lacking. We unfortunately have to wait and see if the Ultra Evolution update does what was advertised thus far considering the teases and jokes that the Global Twitter account is dropping.

The story of the first PSO2 episode indeed had some issues, but even so it was much more complex and developed. In the my room terminal of the JP server (I play also there) you can still see the extra scenes that were cut out or condensed in the main story. Compared to that what we got in NGS seems indeed very poor.

I always take what come from the Global Twitter account with a grain of salt, as ultimately their job is to build "hype" over the future contents, but what was delivered up to now has been quite bland.

In that sense, the Global Twitter account has been dropping thinly-veiled spoilers (those who know will know). I personally don't like that sort of teasing and "hinting" at what is to come, but I can say that there is some sort of truth to the claim to that the Ultra Evolution update is referred to as "PSO2 2" in a sense.

At least that I imagine, it may be "Episode 8" in regards to New Genesis standing in as "NOT EPISODE7" as it was originally teased years ago.
While I think that the reveal had strong potential in it, I was mainly annoyed at how it was so fixated on making you the "the chosen one", ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell I hate this trope so much.

As I was listening to the story I kept trying to justify Zephetto's methods, but it really is just ramblings of a desperate anti-hero going insane.

Seriously the only way this whole thing checks out is because the MC appeared. Skulldude was all too happy throwing lives and risk turning more cities into craters until he found someone with the MC's strength and affinity, never bothering with the power of collaboration by those who were maybe weaker, but nonetheless can help with technology, medical, research, training and weapons development.

Actually, I just realized: isn't that the whole point of the 4 regions? The player goes around helping people and in return they help with that big-ass cannon that is eventually used to help take down Dark Falz?

And if the MC didn't show up? or they ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ die in the process of this "training", then Skulldude will have spent a whopping 300 years with nothing to show for it. That, or we have the last surviving civilization reduced to cinders and we have our 100% photon sensitivity protag fighting with sticks and stones.

Frankly, the whole debacle would've sat well with me if Skulldude just referred to the entire cast as his objective. If he said he spent 300 years waiting for the generation that will inevitably be hardened by his training program, a generation with enough people that can contribute enough effort to the single goal of fighting off DF and that means he has prepared the whole of humanity enough to go toe to toe with the starless.

It would've been a huge nod to the playerbase as well. The NGS we're playing right now? It's actually the time period when ARKS got back on their feet, with the help of everyone.

The players right now, every single one, is the result of these 300 years that will finally kick some ass.

But nope, instead this whole thing is now in the hands of a single MC, without any foreshadowing or preamble. And the starless appears just in time before skulldude can explain any more so he can die immediately, hahahaha future is yours my ass.

Again, I see the potential, and I admit I kinda loved it still despite my complaints, I was just a little bit annoyed at how some things went down.

Starless are Rappies who've been attacked thousands of times. As they always escape for their lives, Their faction finally decided not to get bullied so They grouped up and powered up for revenge because they are tired of ARKS trying to kill them for grinders. They attack all living beings because they think it hits ARKS's pride for ARKS's is supposed to protect every life.

So everytime you all think of attacking a Rappy, think about the consequences it will pile up. :)

Of course YOU'D defend him lol.

Trees aren't people. We don't sacrifice PEOPLE to stop forest fires, and when we sacrifice PEOPLE to stop crises, we're evil, full stop.

We have Zephetto's word on things before his silly experiment failing, and little else. Given how he justifies ends and means, his word means nothing.

He still kept this valuable data out of the hands of people who, unlike Zephetto and his own drones, might've had a breakthrough.

You don't solve problems with secrecy, you solve them with collaboration. You believe in people. Because if you don't, why even bother fighting for them? Aina was right: Zephetto is a pawn in his own stupid game, regardless of what good intentions he had.

No, the only reason humanity is still here is because they chopped down people during the Black Plague to avoid its spread.

Grab a history book next maint.

Why secrecy? Because when they were aware they wouldn't evolve their photon use. It had to be real for them to actually evolve, be in a real danger.
Hard times, strong people.
Take your own advice. He is right and history proves that time and time again. Try the civil rights era befor you open your mouth again.
I look forward to the racism next episode should there be a form of rescue. There are other experiments around and with it the bounds of who's better and why help those who accepted "decay" and "de-evolution".

Pie in the sky I know, because this is Disneyland and anything characters might say based off from their experience isn't allowed. They'll help and somehow have the resource necessary for the plot to move forward. Remember Aina told Giuseppe about this experiment being a game? I expected him to burst in anger because of his experience but there wasn't any. The lives he put down all from his faith that it will one day produce a solution. It did and damn is it sad that it actually is 909. His method was correct and moving forward, we, the players, will now be playing the messianic story born from a zealot's faith in his methods. Ain't that just satisfying.

No joke lol, I would love this. Rappies have been a part of PS for basically ever. For them to start a counterattack now would be amazing.

Nonsense. All iterations of ARKS are equally lesser to the CAST Supremacy.

1. Matoi, probably not. She was a human, and Oracle Fleet was destroyed 500 years after the end of Episode VI. The Guardian may have been there if they were a Newman, Deuman, or CAST, but the only information I could find on lifespans was that in Phantasy Star Online (the original, a different continuity), Newmans could live anywhere from several years to several hundred years.)
2. Persona the Masked was a fallen version of the Guardian from an alternate future, but she and the other Dark Falz ceased to be following the death of the Primordial Darkness in Episode VI.
Are we exactly the PSO2 MC's clone or do we just have the dna and a random/different look?

Probably just DNA.

An exact MC clone would have fused fingers and a messed up back

He did say we were "near-perfect", but I actually did make a joke about that yesterday, though I prefer base-spec to NGS-spec because it just looks so much better.

My base game protagonist runs into her NGS counterpart.
"You're me!" she exclaims, shocked.
"I'm you, but better." the NGS counterpart replies with a smirk.
The base game protagonist tilts her head. "Better?"
The NGS counterpart raises her palm, as if to wave. "I can move my fingers."
