Will the update remove the old content?
Since my update is still far from complete, I'd figure I'll ask here beforehand.

Will the update includes any mechanics to remove the old PSO2 classic contents, since they now have become a DLC and is not part of NGS client? Like automatically removal of the unused content or will Sega give us a "purge" button to do that? I really need to reclaim the space on my SSD, as I couldn't plan any upgrade in the near future.

Or are we all screwed and have to uninstall PSO2:NGS and re-install the whole game to remove the unused contents?? If yes, that sucks, hard...

Nope. but, there is hope still. After the update, uninstall base PS02 which will inadvertently uninstall NGS as well. Then submit a ticket to SEGA, wait 2 weeks.

Base PSO2 will be a DLC after the maintenance so no uninstalling it will not uninstall NGS since base PSO2 is optional DLC now.

I think the unused content really got removed - after the update finished, I check the local file size, it had became 62.29 GB!! My C drive free space is not in the red anymore!!

One thumb up for Sega!

Yeah, the update automatically uninstalled base PSO2, but no one can download it yet because the DLC hasn't shown up yet. Probably won't show up as separate DLC until after maintenance is done which is not until 1AM PDT at the earliest, end times could change.

Seriously? That's fantastic news, when and where did I miss this tid-bit?

So let me get this straight:
Instead of just making the "Base Game DLC" automatically checked off for anyone who downloaded the game prior to 6/6, and having anyone who wanted to opt out of Base PSO2 just unclick the box and free up their HDD space...
...they uninstalled PSO2 Base from everyone who already HAD IT, making you RE-DOWNLOAD the whole thing.

Up yours, Sega, way to waste my bandwidth, clowns.
There's just so many pointless inconveniences in this game that it lowers my interest in the game.

It does get annoying. They seem to be determined to make things as awkward as possible.

whats worse is no explaination as to why jp, and ps4 global dont need to do this redownload/update with 100gps just to keep playing, best guess is besides censorship and data sharing/collecting, whatever they released for global intially (xbox/windows) they tweaked for data purposes which allowed steam/epic/others as appealling but caved in and fell inline with soyu western requirements just that jp was already easy to change for jp players to inline with ps4 western standards/demands

The reason why there is no "explanation" is because they already did this far back then.

https://pso2.jp/players/news/27970/

When New Genesis originally launched, New Genesis (and the common files from Phantasy Star Online 2) downloaded - and Phantasy Star Online 2's data was made an optional download from the get-go.

This was a change Global players wanted as well because Phantasy Star Online 2 at the time was 90 GB and New Genesis being added to it was an even larger amount of hard drive space being taken up. They never got this change until the launch of Global's PlayStation 4 version.

None of these involve collecting data or falling in line with any "standards" - we are simply getting what the Japanese side already did for years and if you really are that afraid of your data being collected you might dislike the upcoming events or what Sega already collects from the players in regards to their Web Panel Survey events.

I'm astounded how long it will take the programmers/project managers at Sega to learn:

"If you are unsure, ask.
If you are too embarrassed to ask, then cover all holes in your arse."

They could just update the game as usual (without touching what's already on the players' hard drive), and then when the players first login after the update, ask if the players want to purge the PSO2C data.

Instead they do the exact opposite, they purged the data without asking, then ask the players if they want to re-install what they just removed...

Brilliant project manager you have there, Sega.

And the next step that could have been done was to prompt players who wanted to play Phantasy Star Online 2 to be sent to the proper store page on the version of the game they are playing (Microsoft Store, Steam Store, Epic Games Store, Xbox Marketplace, and so on) so they can properly attach the "PSO2 Data" downloadable content to the account so that there isn't a need or hassle to redownload so much.

The way this was handled made "sense" years ago when New Genesis was just launching for Japan - but I really feel that it caused only more confusion than anything for Global.
