With V2, Can You Download and Play just Base PS02?
I thought it was one of the features of version 2 update that we would be able to download base PSO2 alone. I don't have an interest in playing NGS and would like to do the story in the original, but I dont want to download 120gb when all I want in base PSO2.

No, they made it so that NGS is the BASE game, so you have to have it to play the old base pso2 lol

No.

To specify, all they did was turn base PSO2 into DLC that you can download. PSO2NGS is the main game, and so they're not giving you an option to play the original without downloading both.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Yeah. Man I really wish they were separate downloads because as time goes on I view them more and more as completely different games. I feel like base PSO2 would have a decently large playerbase still if you weren't required to dl NGS

SEGA doesn't want you to play PSO2 original. That was made clear from the launch. People can try to deny it, but it's the truth. PSO2 was strangled to death on purpose and left as unplayable, but technically playable, as possible. They want you on NGS to make SEGA more money.

The thing is most of the remaining playerbase played PSO2 JP for over 5 years, some like me since the very beggining. They played enough PSO2 for a whole lifetime, thats why they dont go play it.

We have already discussed this. Pointlessly. You don't think all of the content SEGA eliminated from PSO2 was "core content" and therefore wasn't an attempt to kill PSO2 to make NGS look better.

I disagree with you and have already said why before. I won't bother again.

Because legacy PSO2 requires the engine and other things NGS has.
Meanwhile NGS does not need everything PSO2 has.
PSO2 Base doesn't require any of the NGS FMV, cutscenes, story quests, environments, enemies, or environment materials.
It's the same type of content that they removed with PSO2, they could remove with NGS just fine. They didn't do it because SEGA doesn't want people playing PSO2 instead of NGS, because they have some authoritarian ideology and don't like people doing things they weren't told to do.

PSO2 runs on the core engine of NGS tho
It doesn't need the NGS datasets though.
The engine is maybe a few hundred megabytes, not seventy gigabytes.

Has anybody ever told you that you're insufferable and an instigator? because if not I'll be honored to be the first.

Base PSO2 was working just fine with the updated engine before NGS came out. It didn't need anything from NGS.

Technicallynthe new engine broke the base game's graphics.

But that's what they removed.
The shared engine code is shared, and still present. They removed the contents files, and could do the same to NGS to let people play Classic. Heck, they might even get away with a SteamDeck Playable rating.
