A 2 press row intersecting with a 2 press column doesn't give me enough information to say if it's that specific intersection that should be pressed, or if it's at another... You have to compare so much extra information.
that's the optimal strat

Thats what I thought, you start from the bigger ones but like he/she said you dont have time to solve, its better leave or try to break the boxes with a ranged attack
The numbers indicate how many in connection (e.g. 4 has to be 4 in a row), the split numbers indicate that there is a blank space between them (e.g. 1-1 means there is 2 singular blocks separated by some amount of space)
You just need to know the approach to how to solve it.
1. Look for rows with 5, 3-1, 2-2, 1-1-1 because these rows can only have 1 pattern.
e.g. 5 = [x][x][x][x][x] OR 3-1 = [x][x][x][_][x]
2. Look for hits on the side of walls if they have a large number because they can only go in 1 direction.
e.g. 4 = [x][_][_][_][_] has to be 4 = [x][x][x][x][_] OR 2-1 = [x][_][_][_][_] has to be 2-1 = [x][x][_][?][?]
3. Look for connections of larger numbers based on what hits you have.
e.g 3 = [x][_][x][_][_] has to be 3 = [x][x][x][_][_] OR 2-1 = [_][x][_][x][_] has to be [x][x][_][x][_]
Most of the board will be filled then, which means you just need to get the rest by checking if the vertical and horizontal will add up correctly. With the knowledge of what to look out for, you will be able to eventually derive the answer. With practice, you will be able to spot all the certain answers quickly and clear majority of the board rapidly. Just that certain boards might be a bit confusing when you're down to the last few 1-1, 2-1 and 2.
I am questioning how many solutions are really there though, for the first week and a half, I noticed all the 4x4 and 5x5 of this puzzle had the same solution and had a cheat sheet ready. However after that first 10 days or so, I finally started to run into some without the same solution.
