the client is shard across both games but yes you can.. ngs just gets a lot of hate because its going though its new mmo stuggle phase which most do.. as well as many of the new players its drawn dont understand the concept of a casual mmo

I cant even launch the game to try that, I could launch orignial PSO2 but PSO2NG has effectively locked me out...saying I don't have the required system requirements to run it...despite being able to run the original game.

I feel so cheated....

In about March of 2021 the Japanese version rolled out the "Graphics Engine Update" that introduced the intended graphics engine for New Genesis as well as the new character creation mechanics. Global did not get this until New Genesis' launch - but ever since then you now must have a computer that has AVX support (effectively any "modern" processor after 2011-2012).

As to "how much" AVX New Genesis actually uses is up in the air - but it's a mandatory requirement that Sega has not looked into changing even for Phantasy Star Online 2 which never needed it before the graphics engine update.

So now NGS has its own subgenre? :lunar2019deadpanpig:

I web searched Casual MMOs. I see a few sites stating that GuildWars 2 is the best Casual MMO and I have played GW2 during launch and it had way more to do than NGS.

I think "online mobile game" would be a lot more accurate than "casual mmo".

There's no way to skip the AVX instruction set requirement... which was introduced with NGS. More or less you need a system that is less than 10 years old...I feel your pain because I had to get a "newer" PC specifically to play NGS when the update was coming.

You're forced, for no good reason whatsoever, to complete the tutorial in the sequel expansion NGS up until you unlock the fast travel system (Ryuker Devices) before you can play the base game. Before this, Start PSO2 is grayed out on the character select screen.
Supposedly NGS starts getting good in Kvaris, though I have not been able to verify these claims yet.

Base pso2 is kinda dead at this point. Pretty soon they will remove it entirely, you might as well make the transition into ngs.

Story is solo. And if they remove it, they'll be making a serious mistake.

Pretty bold and uninformed assumption. Sega would also be signing NGS' death sentence by doing so.

i mean, they already did that with NGS alone lol
let alone, they 100% prett much already did that as well with their garbage Engine they cant even optimize / fix. even on their horrid new sonic game, on their hardware it runs badly. i even see people with RTX cards and high end systems where they get microstutters and bad performance.

also they AVX requirement killed pso2 itself, ngs didnt really kill pso2, it was their garbage subpar NGS engine that killed it.

on top of that, SEGA is known for shooting itself on the foot not with pistols, but bazookas instead especially with all the stuff recently.
sega cant touch anything without effing it up, their 2d sonic game is a prime example, they touched it after the publisher said it was fine nope sega ruined it and bam flopped same with the new 3d sanic game, sega just well... being sega.

Yes, you can.

1. Download NGS and install.
2. Log on, choose your server, create your character.
3. Follow the MSQ of NGS until you have access to a Ryuker Device.
4. Access the Ryuker Device.
5. In Ryuker Device Menu select "Block Transfer"
6. Select "Transfer to a PSO2 Block"
7. Hit "Yes" on the pop-up prompt.

Congratulations, you are now playing Pso2.

They really need to fix the launcher so that's not necessary.

Once you have done it once, you can also launch directly into pso2 from character select.

Yes, but not if you make an alt. Also unfair to new players.

Alt characters have the option to completely skip the prologue for New Genesis and any chapters the player has already completed there. Even upon just entering Central City once, you can simply log off and log into a [PSO2 Block] from there.
