I dont know how much more prove is needed until the fanbase notices that NGS is just a low effort cash grab.
I mean, you COULD still get premium and enjoy the benefits IN base PSO2, except base PSO2 has been kneecapped. New player? Personal Quarters sound good? Well, they only exist on base PSO2, and I'm sure they're never going to just let you use the same quarters between base PSO2 and NGS if they ever implement them. Wanted to earn some of those furniture pieces they ran in mission passes or the FUN machines? TOUGH, get them off player shops for crazy amounts of money, assuming you CAN get them off player shops.
Speaking of FUN, premium gets you extra points! Shame they're never rotating those FUN ticket lineups. Ever. Again.
Alliance benefits? Sure, it exists, in regular PSO2, and HAHAHAHAHA have you seen the player count yeah no
Hell, I didn't hesitate to just open-palm slam on the 2-3 month Premium bundles several times before NGS and the death of base PSO2. Now? HA.
Oh, I can "earn" some emote-based nonsense by getting a 3 month pass now? NOT. WORTH. IT. Period.
not sure what op is talking about
edit: oh i understand what they are talking about. i haven't used that feature in a long long time i just use my systems built in capture feature to get my stills.
While it can be argued that New Genesis was "released" too early I feel it must also be recognized that Phantasy Star Online 2 on the Japanese side was in its decline because Sega stopped doing major content updates for it for nearly a year. After August of 2020, the Japanese side finished its story (Global was in the middle of Episode 4 at that point in their fast-forwarding) and it wasn't until September of 2020 before the final Emergency Quest and the Luster came out. From that point on, it was players just grinding for the end-game equipment and finally creating the "final" set of weapons and units for the Emergency Quest that didn't exactly need it.
When it came to December, Sega renewed Challenge Mission Quests by adding a third one, started a campaign pushing people into fast-fowarding their Cras weapons and units, and also began trying to hype players for New Genesis' first Closed Beta. They also ran a Christmas event celebrating Episodes 4-6 by bringing versions of the antagonists as characters you can interact with and ran an event for Phantasy Star Online's 20th Anniversary with the return of the Fire Swirl event as well.
Sega was no longer interested in making content for Phantasy Star Online 2 when they kept pushing out how big New Genesis was supposed to be (the fabled "NOT EPISODE 7" update) and already started sidelining Phantasy Star Online 2 to pave the way for New Genesis (N-Type fashion with the first five Oracle Renew Scratches, the Graphics Engine Update, and more). The Global side never saw how dry Episode 6 was when it spanned nearly two years of "crawling" just to try and scramble towards an ending and how its ending was ultimately jumping off of a cliff because the new thing came around.
It's not a defense to how "good" New Genesis is in comparison - but that Sega did an amazingly big-brain play by not only releasing New Genesis in its state - but killing Phantasy Star Online 2 before even New Genesis came out in the bigger region that Sega calls home unfortunately shows what the game is to Sega. It's a level of prestige I feel so many other developers would absolutely dream of in regards to how to treat their cashcows and still be printing money.
In regards to this, it's a "relatively new" addition to Premium as well from the Japanese side and unfortunately as it is Premium is not really worth it unless you really wanted those small features and a number of quality-of-life additions. It's absolutely not necessary either unless you were taking solo screenshots because the freeze function only works on the client-side (as in only for you so no one else will see you "freezing" your emotes either nor will you see others freezing their emotes).
