About Phantasy Star Nova
I'm sure that the Vita is pretty much dead but why wasn't it ported to other consoles and PC?

Was this game any important to the story of PSO2?

Nope, it doesn't matter, it's just on the same time line as pso2 but no way connected to the events in pso2 since well.....they're stranded on a faraway planet

So I guess that the game is dead for good from Sega's eyes?

Well pretty much, not for me though, I can play it on my vita anytime :lunar2019piginablanket:
Kind of disappointed though, when you first encounter Shiva in ep6, she said no photon related attack can hurt her, best time to get Nova involved since these guys have no access to photon stuff but use something else entirely

I guess that they threw off Nova from the main canon as the game was developped by Tri Ace...

This is also why I'm a bit mad that Portable 2 Infinity never saw any western release...

Or why they didn't port Phantasy Star Generations 1 nor 2 to modern consoles and PC in English...

There was also a PSO2es game for mobiles on the JP version with extra story that we never got.
Luckily the PSO2 story is terrible anyway so nothing we need to worry about. Lol

I could understand for Episode 4 but the Oracle Trilogy looks solid.

Way too many cliches and tropes imo between amnesia, time travel, the power of friendship nonsense, and chosen one prophecies.
And aside from the flat writing they also have the illusion of choice that I don't like in games, they give you two dialogue options and both almost always have the same reaction.

Hey at least it's still better than the thing the devs in genshin impact did
They give you multiple choice in dialogue, but it's actually just one choice but cut to pieces

Not to mention all of the characters in Genshin Impact only exist to be sold as microtransactions. lol

Phantasy Star Nova is a sidestory to Phantasy Star Online 2 that essentially starts off as an expedition fleet from ARKS exploring a new planet which opens up some new plots and explores the aftermath of the Photoners (the Delta Valiant crew crash-lands on an extinct-ish civilization that were attacked by the Photoners). To survive, the characters lose their use of Photons even against the Darkers/Falspawn and end up learning something new (Gran) to uncover a mystery.

Unfortunately, the game's connection is one-sided because Sega does acknowledge Nova in the form of AC Scratches and voice tickets (though we never got the voice tickets on Global). In the context of New Genesis, I feel like the DOLLS do look similar to the enemies you encountered in Nova and some of the ideas with the enemies (the Gigantix for example) remind me of the Gigantes from Phantasy Star Nova. As mentioned, I really do feel that Phantasy Star Online 2's whole drama and problem in Episode 6 (the "oh no, this person absorbs photons and is the ultimate photon user, how do we fight them?" problem) would have been slapped around had the Delta Valiant crew shown up as they are a team who did fight without photons.

Despite it being based on an older version of Phantasy Star Online 2, I really do feel that Nova overall had a more "solid" feel on its gameplay due to how the player was able to build not only their class but their skills via the skillboard where leveling up classes unlocked skills you could attach to the skillboard and skills can combine in combinations. This meant that if you wanted to, you had an advantage to be a Hunter equipping other weapons (like Twin Machineguns) if it suited your playstyle, and you could have done the same being a Force equipping a Sword when you learn the skills. However, I personally felt the addition of the Buster class was messy since they had an exclusive weapon and could simultaneously handle all other weapons without needing the skills to do so.

If you do get the chance to play Phantasy Star Nova, you are greeted to a game that really steers Phantasy Star Online 2 into a more tighter direction of games like Monster Hunter, God Eater, Ragnarok Odyssey, Toukiden, Freedom Wars, and more that were definitely the trending multiplayer genre back then on the Vita.
