The Disaster That Is PSO2:NGS - from Syberbolt

All credits to Syberbolt, I'm not the creator of the video. Just sharing it because he explains thoroughly why NGS is damaging the entire PSO franchise.

I'd honestly spend 1 hour watching this video than 1 hour playing NGS.

I hate that the series went open world, and Sega currently seems out of their depth and incapable of convincing me that it was a good idea.

We already have so few games like Phantasy Star, it used to be something a bit unique, but now it's just generic open world garbage.

Yeah, it's been going down this path ever since PSU when they tried turning it into a psudeo-MMO and I'm not fond of it, either. I would much rather they go back to their roots and turn it back into a 4-player co-op game with chat lobbies. I would love if they made something like Phantasy Star Zero but in HD.
Huh now that I watched it, the video is spot on.

Agree with pretty much everything, this game is a disaster, SEGA shouldn't have lunch this game until next year that way base PSO2 population would have time to grow, but instead they rush it out, and ♥♥♥♥ it up in every angle, what a shame.
The biggest mistake was even announcing NGS when we just got PSO2! Sega outright told the entire player base to not even bother with PSO2. If they just wanted to create buzz, they could've did a short teaser just to say "Look forward to this later," taken their sweet time working on it and give us at least another year to year and a half of PSO2. Even though the story ends at Ep6, there was still tons to do with collabs, raids, UQ, concerts, enhancements, bringing back old events... etc.
This is a marketing blunder that needs to be studied to prevent future mistakes.

How many of you would've been satisfied with just having PSO2 for another 18-36 months after Ep6 as long as we had other content to focus on?
I would have been satisfied with just PSO2, especially if it still got support. I was extremely disappointed in SEGA when I logged into PSO2 the other day to see a Halloween lobby but no seasonal events or Halloween Matoi partner to unlock (she's been a thing in Japan for a while). Killed all my enthusiasm.

Damn, nobody seemed to like PSU. I enjoyed it for what it was and still play on the Clementine server here and there. The worst thing about it for me is how tedious leveling PAs and techs were. The multiple dungeon hubs were something I did like though.

I love PSU, it's by far the best experience I have ever had with any online game. I followed Clementine from pretty much the beginning and was involved in every testing phase. The final test in 2019 that ran for almost a year was pretty much the only game I played that year.

I have barely gone back since they officially launched though. I fell behind most players and at this point, I am finding it hard to motivate myself to play. There are so few low level players that it's hard to find anybody to play with anymore, and PSU's solo experience just isn't fun for me. I can play the game all day with groups of players, even if I am running the same missions over and over again, but on my own, it gets really boring.

It's supposed to be "action combat", and there's nothing active about standing still and waiting for the enemy to hit you. Whatever excuse they may have for it is insanity.

You could also use the dash as an excuse for the fact enemies jump/fly around, which makes melee combat insufferable, but the combat would obviously be more fun if you weren't limited for some arbitrary reason. A pettas gun can jump so far with an ability that your gap closer won't even reach it. What's the point of a gap closer if it doesn't close the gap? Counter-intuitive BS.

If melee worked so your attacks make you home in on the enemy position, which would also go higher or lower as necessary, then it wouldn't be so bad, especially when fighting in the air. You know, just like katana combat does (at least that's the way it worked in PSO2). They already have the system in the game, why they aren't using it is unfathomable.
And indeed that's one part of the problem. I myself got rather good at gap closing thanks to wired lance enemy latch and pull mechanic. But this shouldn't be exclusive to certain weapons and classes. Every melee weapon should be able to do something similar.

I always had better luck getting a party going on discord unless your running White Beast.

I tried, but I rarely get a reply and I just got fed up with asking in the end. There just aren't enough low level players playing and the high level players would rather stick to high level missions.
