is this a pay to win type of game?
i'm looking for a mmo (similar to final fantasy 11) that doesn't have pay to win mechanics where you spend real-life money for in game items that boost progression. i'm ok with cosmetics but when you have the ability to pay real money instead of grinding and working hard its a no-go for me i just can't get into games that do that

funny thing i will say about pso2 you try going back to other f2p mmos and you'll see just how bad other games monetization really are.

Yeah it has options for P2W, there are cash shop purchases and premium services that can give you advantages. The game can be played and enjoyed without it, but if you want an experience similar to ff11 or ffxiv where there is no outside influences( spend real-life money for in game items) at all, you are best looking elsewhere.

I would say when it comes to PSO2 its not as egregious as something like BDO where the cash shop is ever looming and at every turn there is some "inconvenience" where the solution lays in the cash shop. PSO2's monetization does not operate in a similar manner, but at the end of it all its up to you to decide what level of P2W you can tolerate.

Thank you for honest answer. This is the answer what i am looking for. I have played ffxiv for a while and it is an amazing game.I dont want any ''outside influences'' and it looks like this game is not for me. Thanks for saving my time sir.

Damn, sad. I was looking forward for some casual fun but if people are gonna flex their wallets on me I'll pass.

PSO2 isn't pay to win at all, you can earn everything. If you want you can pay for cosmetics but like i said you can earn this by grinding. Premium accounts are offered and will give you your own house and stuff but you can earn those to. PSO2 isn't about pay to win what so ever.

No just pay for convenience. You're given boosters out the wazoo and if you're saavy you can play several classes with just the 3 characters you're given. As for scratch ticket stuff if you're saavy with earning and making money (you can literally make 3 million a week or 9 if you're only playing on one server just being lazy) you can buy what you want and farm sg on the side with it. Just play smart and you won't spend a dime.

The widely accepted definition of P2W within the industry is being able to purchase a gameplay advantage (over other players) with real money that cannot be obtained through other means. As such,is PSO2 P2W under that definition? No, it is not. However, it is heavily pay for convenience. Please be aware that I have been playing this game off an on since it's original launch in JP, so I know these things for certain over the wave of new NA (now global?) players.

I wouldn't consider the game p2w. I would say it's filled with phone game levels of microtransactions and gatcha mechanics while also being designed in such a way to get you into spending money on every little thing possible.
Karnage Aug 6, 2020 @ 1:57pm
For those saying that the game is in fact P2W, please name a single purchased gameplay advantage (over other players) with real money that cannot be obtained through other means. So at least the rest of us will know if you're going by the widely accepted definition of P2W within the industry or your own personal definition that shouldn't apply here.

You miss the difference that gacha games tend to tie progression to the gacha. This isn't the case in PSO2. You're thrown boosters every day and if you're smart with your storage space you won't need any storage expansions. Everything that matters from gear, affixes and so on can be achieved being f2p.

Except that isn't true at all, Pay2Win does not mean you have to Pay2win, it just means you can(the option exist.)whether you can grind for it ingame is besides the point. "Pay4Convenience" is just a shield used by diehards to protect their favorite games from scrutiny, and this is from someone who has been playing since JP as well.

So then, you admit to using your own personal definition that somehow includes paying for convenience being included within paying to win. You should have said as much as to not trick the OP.

Nope not my own definition, yours is just incorrect. Simple as that.

You're using a shifted definition as a shield to prove your point as well.
