Report the game to Valve for installing a rootkit on the computer
You cant remove it without admin level command line and going into the registry. And its uncertain whether that even fully removes it. That is inexcusable.

Idk I've been playing the game for 8 years with it and have only had one issue where gg would bug out and prevent the game to launch, which was fixed a week later. I think you're overreacting.

Or maybe you're just paranoid.

Yeah I'm paranoid that the ROOTKIT this game installs cannot be fully removed. Do you have any idea how insanely risky that is? This "anti-cheat" ties itself to the OS, making removing it very difficult if at all possible. The only real option is a complete system restore from a backup image.

I swear if I had a penny for every time someone makes this kind of thread for a game, I'd be rich by now.

As per other instances of these threads, the program is not malicious, can be fully removed on a basic uninstall (at least in my instances, though it isn't uncommon for programs to not completely remove its own files on an uninstall). You information isn't being harvested, and if you're honestly this concerned about anticheat software you probably wouldn't even be connected to the internet.

how can you remove it? haven't had any issues with it but say i want to remove it how do i do it? i don't see it in software and programs.

ROOTKIT, doesn't mean malicious. The software type gets a bad rep, because a lot of malicious programs use rootkits. But you are correct, in that nProtect Gameguard is technically a rootkit.

It is difficult to remove because you need to go into your system registry to completely uninstall it.

There are different versions of the software. Some have anti-keylogging and anti-virus protection built in. If it's patched properly you shouldn't have control issues.

I'd look up a guide or two. I've never had issues with it, but it's your choice whether or not you wish to remove it from your computer.

Ironically, link got blocked by malwarebytes. :winter2019joyfultearsgingerbread:
Could be a false-positive, but I thought that was funny.

Wow. Looks like a thread with technical background info about Game Guard got deleted.

You lost a possible customer.

Yeah, and don't forget to report the game. I also wish we could report users defending it...

nProtect is a rootkit, if you like it, or not.
Its not a false positive, as it exactly does what a root kit does. It enables root access for a n alien account.

I really waited for this game, but with this ?

Never.
