Is there any way to craft rope?
Just started and i don't want to place blocks as steps for my mining shaft so i chose to use rope.
The only i option i see in the crafting menu is throwable coils but no simple rope?

Is there any type of ladder/ stairs/ anything better suited to go up and down your mine quick?

I don't think you can craft rope but you can use chain in the exact same way. It just requires an anvil and some iron/lead. It's crafted and a 1 bar to 10 chains ratio.

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention, ropes CAN be purchased from the merchant if you'd rather spend coin than iron/lead.

The material that you use to make the coils is simple rope, and can be placed individually. If you want to set up a very long rope down a vertical shaft you can throw the rope coil at the same location at the top and they will add on to the bottom.

Rope is also an early game material. Later you wont find as much nor will you really need it. Especially after you get the magic mirror, which teleports you back to spawn location.

Lots of ropes in chests. I don't think you will run out soon.

The iron chains are available also.

At the same time, prior to all this, people would use wooden platforms or build a kind of staircase with blocks (which you dont want to do), or even dig through dirt/stone in a staircase pattern to get to a lower or higher section.

That is, until you get the grappling hook . So one of the early goals will be to get a hook from a skeleton or piranha.

Thank you!
Gems can be used to make grappling hooks. I find that much easier than farming for a hook.

Depends on how lucky you get and whether you've already made a staff of equal or greater quality to whatever gems you have to make the hook out of. So far, I haven't really had any trouble getting hooks from sources other than the new gem hooks. In one game I got a web slinger and in the other I just got a lucky hook drop.

I am curious as to how good they are as grappling hooks though since i've never had to make one. Are they just as good as the regular hook? I mean, they eat enough gems that they probably should be...
lamp oil, rope, bombs you want it? It's yours my frend, as long as you have enough rupees
