How to catch a Bunnyfish
Having the hardest tme in catching a bunny fish. The wiki is no help because it says the Bunnyfish can be caught in any biome. Is there a special trick to catching it or is it just random luck by fishing in a forest?

well I used up three worms with the purple corruption fishing pole (I forget what its called). Its the best fishng pole you can craft and I got about 8-9 tries with it and the worms. Guess I still got a long way to go.

Unfortunately its fairly difficult to do the fishing quests in the beginning. If you have lots of money, you could try for the Sitting Duck Pole that the Traveling Merchant sometimes sells, it has 40% fishing power.

The Mechanic npc from hardmode sometimes sells a Mechanic's Fishing Pole for around 20 gold, and it has 30% fishing power.

You could technically craft the Fleshcatcher rod, which is the crimson counterpart to the Corruption pole, and its 22% power, so its mildly better than the corruption pole.

There is also a some sort of Fiberglass rod that can be found in Jungle Shrines, but that only has about a 2% chance of occurring for each Jungle Shrine Chest, so I wouldn't count on that.

If possible, you might want to consider producing several fishing potions to help boost your fishing power a bit, you make it with:
1 Crispy Honey Block made from mixing honey and lava
1 Waterleaf
and of course 1 Bottled Water.

I hope this helps you out with fishing.

Thanks everyone for your help. After my last comment I caught one right away. Then after that the traveling merchant came by and had the sitting duck pole. Just another question. can you craft the "bait" the Angler NPC gives you? Also is there a way to farm worms to use as bait?

Unfortunately no, you cannot craft bait, the best you can do is hope that the Angler gives you the tackle box which reduces the odds of bait consumption in that regard.

As for farming worms, breaking grass/dirt clumps that form on grass is the fastest way, so making a long platform of grass to run across and cut/net bugs is probably the most effective way to go about it.

Rain does help boost the frequency of worm generation though, so do take your time to walk in the rain.

If your in hardmode and your lucky however, lightning bugs will spawn at night in hallowed forest biomes (not sure if the other hallow biomes have this), and they have 35% bait power, so they are fairly effective.

Also, another thing I forgot to mention is that the size of the pool drastically effects your loot table for fishing. The smaller the pool, the more likely you are to get garbage.

What's even better, imo, is the Sonar Potion, with which you see what you have on your hook, so you can decide if you want to reel it in or not. Helps preserve bait.
You need 1 Bottled Water, 1 Waterleaf and 1 Coral for 1 Sonar Potion.
