How to host a steam dedicated server?
How do I host a dedicated server with steam intergration enabled so I don't have to port forward or use a virtual LAN?

the .bat file in the terraria fold should do it but it just spams the same error over and over agian

I am trying to find a way to make it work now but it doesnt seem to like it very much!

I would rather not have to give out my ip to some of the people i know on steam for obvious reasons, so getting the dedicated server software to allow steam friends only to connect would be great!

time to keep trying i suppose XD

Hosting 1.3 is the same as hosting previous versions since 1.2. It should port forward for you automatically unless you disabled UPnP.

Note that Steam invite support must be enabled by launching TerrariaServer with the
-steam
and
-lobby <friends> or <private>
flags as there's no config file option for it.

Sorry about me being a complete idiot, but how do I use flags?

Just noticed they added batch files for those aswell, so just run start-server-steam-friends.bat or start-server-steam-private.bat in your Terraria directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Terraria\).

So, just executing -steam-friends.bat does work for you?
I used to play through basic start-server.bat file, and it works just fine. But when I try to use other batch files (or add -steam -lobby friends) it throws a message "please launch the game from steam client".

Same thing happens for me. I wonder if anyone has a solution?

Im still really confused how this whole thing works. sorry for being a massive idiot but is the mp run thru steam now?

Although you cannot run a dedicated server through steam, host and play still works, but the server shuts down when you leave.

I don't understand why they added batch files to launch a dedicated steam server if you cannot actually do that. Any time you try to you just get the error 'Please launch the game from the Steam client'. Even if you try to launch the TerrariaServer.exe with the -steam flag THROUGH Steam it still throws that error.

I DID IT, first open your main terraria game, after that open the "-steam-friends.bat" SVn now you have the sv and the main game without errors, to connect to your own server connect via IP, the ip you need to enter is 127.0.0.1 accept port :7777 and voila you are in your own SV, from here you can invite friends

hope this helps ;)
