Top 5 BEST Prehardmode Weapons
Im kinda bored so I feel like sharing my PERSONAL opinion on the top 5 best weapons in pre hardmode. Remember, this is just an opinion, so leave your thoughts down in the discussion.

1 is the best and 5 is the worst. (worst doesnt mean bad, in this case it means the worst out of the 5 best weapons, if that makes sense. lol :p)

Top 5 List

#5 Enchanted Sword
The enchanted sword I personally think is such a powerful weapon. The only reason it's down here at the 5 spot is because it sometimes can be difficult to find. Sword shrines are rare themselves, but actually getting the enchanted sword from them is rare as well. If you do manage to pick it up early in the game, you will be in great shape. It's also a huge helper in early expert mode. It's stock damage is 24 damage, and it also shoots a projectile sword. So if you can pick it up, you already have a sword better than the blade of grass.

#4 Vilethorn
The Vilethorn has got to be my favorite drop from the pre hardmode corruption AND crimson. For mages and even other classes, it's such a powerful early game item that you can easily obtain from a shadow orb. It's also very effective against the eater of worlds. Also, I find it very good at killing jungle enemies early in the game. It's ability to shoot through the ground and walls allows it to kill enemies like man eaters rather easily.

#3 Molotov Cocktails
The Molotov Cocktail(s) are also another early game throwable weapon. This weapon is used almost all the time in pre hardmode speedruns, and is pretty easy to craft. By combining Ninja/Fossil armor and the molotov cocktails, you can get yourself a very powerful pre hardmode character. This would be ranked higher on the list, however on the PC version it requires pink slime to craft, and pinky slimes arent the most common enemy. In console edition, you dont need the pink slime to craft them.

#2 Boomstick
Some of you may not know it, but the boomstick is a fantastic way to save 35 of your gold coins. If I find myself a boomstick in a jungle chest, I wont even need to spend my money on a minishark. So many people don't realize how powerful this ranged weapon really is. It splits into three shots when fired, and can be very powerful with stronger bullets like meteor shots. When I first obtained it, I used it all the way through pre hardmode and even against the Wall of Flesh.

And now, before we get into our #1 pick, here are some honorable mentions.

The Bee's Knees: a bow that turns normal arrows into bees.

Muramasa: A very fast sword found in the dungeon.

Sunfury: a very powerful flaming flail found in the underworld.

And now, our top pick.

#1 Water Bolt
The water bolt is a straight-up awesome weapon. It can be found in the dungeon after defeating skeletron. In fact, if your lucky, you can even find it before killing skeletron if it spawns in the safe pre-skeletron zone of the dungeon. It summons bolts of water that bounce off of blocks, making it a super strong crowd control weapon. It can be used against literally any boss including the wall of flesh. With the right arena, you can even use it against the pirates, a hardmode invasion. Wow.

What's your top 5 pre hardmode weapons? Leave it in the discussion!

It is fast enough to keep enemies from reaching you sometimes, though. It also lights the area up.
thats tru it is realy nice for mowing down lots of mobs but it's not good vs bosses

It's quite fine. Everyone has to start somewhere. If you're in early hardmode, I'd suggest if you have the ability to, to hunt hallowed mimics. the stormbow you can get from them as well as the flying knife can do some pretty decent damage. The crystal vileshard while it is a direct upgrade from the vile thorn is pretty much garbage at the point you get it even if you get it as soon as hardmode starts... meh.

I get that this is your opinion but

Water bolt is overated in my opinion. I find people LOVE it, but It think it's not too bad. I always found myself never in a situation where I need to use it much.

Need to hit an enemy? Vilethorn can shoot through walls.
Need to knockback an enemy? Vilethorn hits more times, with high damage as well.
Need to find floating islands? Okay i'll give it to waterbolt.
Need to use it against a boss? Vile thorn is more accurate and one of it's major properties isn't negated by the boss moving.
Obviously if you don't have a crimson world this is a fairly good weapon, but I found demon scythe to be good if your willing to farm.
And I'm not comparing damage here, i'm comparing possible situations. Obviously dps wise waterbolt is much better

Sorry for the rant but I just had to express my opinion
For a small top 5 list I would put:

5. Demon Scythe
4. Enchanted sword
3. Bone Javelins
2. The Bee's Knees
1. Beenades

Honorable mentions
Molotov cocktails (If this was back in 1.2.4 when you didn't need pink gel to craft them than they would be no 1.)
Nights edge (Never found myself using it, never cared for it, nor did I care for the Terra blade since 1.3 came out)
Arkhalis (around 6th spot, the range is wayyyyyyyyyyy to short, and the knock back isn't good, and if it was then the damage would lower since you have to keep walking forward.)
Water bolt, (never did I say it's a BAD weapon, I just said I thought it was overated, and if you do have crimson worlds this is fairly good. But by the time you beat skeletron you can already get the demon scythe which in my opinion is OP)

Of course not. A nice challenge to try it, though.

hallowed mimics
My nemesis. I have yet to kill one and I was wondering what they hold. I have encountered about 7 or 8 of them -- the first few, i was clueless as to what they were, and undergeared; the second few, I was better prepared but made misc. stupid mistakes. I have killed a corrupt mimic at this point tho so I presume I can kill the hallowed one now.

About the ice flower though seriously I am bad at keeping track of when I found stuff but I thought there was some wep like this PHM? Was it the "fire flower" maybe? IDK.

Yep! You're probably thinking of the flower of fire. It's obtained via shadow chests. The ice flower is from ice mimics hence hardmode. heh. Anyway, as far as hallowed mimics go, remember that you can intentionally spawn them. farm up souls of light, turn them into keys of light, then put down a chest, put a single key of light in the chest and run away, and the chest turns into a hallowed mimic. You can use this strategy to make a proper arena to fight them in. Remember, that they can pass through walls and stomp on you, so it's generally a good idea to have a long flat area to dodge. You can use hermes boots to generally avoid them when they attempt that, or even a grappling hook if you time it right can be a great tool to dodge with.

I use the Godly Boomstick all over pre=HM. I only find it in the Jungle chests. I use it against the Eye and Skelemon with much success.

4 shots per 1 ammo. Each shot has a it's own critical chance, and with Lucky accessories, yummy. The knockback works wonders for a ranged ammo-type weapon.

With silver bullets, it can nearly insta-kill any mob and is lovely against Eye and Skelemon.

Meteor bullets are tricky. Only one shot will damage one mob, but when the mobs stack up, the penetration extends much farther than single-shot guns. I never use meteor bullets with the Boomstick.

But it does have a decent knockback though.

Just a newb who is learning my way through the game by playing it and has basically only played solo. Other responses duly noted.

Personally I felt like Demon Scythe was the first weapon I got where I could really kick some butt with it. Compared to every other thing I had found, it would really kick out the DPS on certain mobs including bosses when you hit them with the early "stationary" phase of the shot.

Ice Flower is the best "damage" weapon I found, tooltip-wise, and I had good success with that, too.

Both are somewhat situational, obviously.

The ice flower is a hardmode weapon though.
i was gonna ask, "is it really pre hardmode" i felt like i was seriously missing something.

meteor shots are pretty good in my opinion. I never make meteor armor cuz it sucks in singleplayer (just my opinion). So i make meteorshots. I also use them to find sky islands instead of the water bolt. They do some nice damage, you are right about that. If i have some extra shots, they make a nice temporary light source.

my top 5 are the
nights edge although it is not continue fire for mele
minishark, or boomstick for the ranger
full set of bees and bee armor or imps for the summoner
and area pending waterbolt, magic m./Flamelash for the mage

my choice would be for a mage the diamond robe and the magic hat and the jungle pants, with your choice of warding gear for defense or arcane if you want to have lots of na if i am correct the maximum amount of mana you can obtain is 580 but it is unreal to get that and it requires the same armor as above, arcane magic gear all that give mana.

or summoner full beekeeper stuff with bees with your choice of a boomstick or the flamelash/magic m. or diamond staff

Ranger use the shadow armor i think it is with bones from the dungeon and minishark or boomstick cant really help past that.

mele try your best to get molten armor and use your best yoyo or use the nights edge

mana caps at 400 period. even if you theoretically had enough accessories to give you 9000 mana, you'd still only have 400. I know this because I've hit the cap using the nebula armor and full magic boost gear+crystal ball buff. when I should have had somewhere around 500-560.
