Companion Cube Weirdness!
I was messing around with a friend of mine earlier, and I got her a companion cube. Now, I realize that it's the only 'pet' in the game that is flat out 'bad' since it literally attacks you in the dark. However... I noticed when I was next to her, I was taking the damage from it too. Is this some sort of bug or is it intended behavior? because after we got back into a lit area and went into the dark again it didn't damage me again. (Though it did damage her). And yeah, there was definitely no monsters near us when we were in the dark the first time, because we were building an underground house, so there wasn't anything that could spawn there due to the back wall.

I'm aware of the lava thing making sounds, though I don't get the point of it myself. It doesn't do anything BUT make a sound to my knowledge if it's dropped into lava or even left there. Personally I think it should have some sort of effect if you dump it in lava. Even if it was simply preventing it from stabbing you in the dark.

Could have been based on your distance from the cube compared to your friend's distance.

I thought that Sashcore was strictly no armor though? The mining helmet does provide defense so it is technically armor.

It might not, but they made a pun; and I respect that.

I'm not sure because, the second time we went into a pitch black area, I was still standing next to her and she was the only one being injured.

Based on one of GlaDoS' comments in Portal: "The weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you, and in fact cannot speak". This alludes to how the companion cube supposedly "stabs" you while in a place dark enough not to see it stab you, as well as the disturbing sound it makes when it touches lava.

Um yes? There is literally no other pet in the entire game that has a negative effect to it BUT the companion cube Also no, it's stab does not do only 1 damage. In expert mode it was hitting the test character I was using for 5-6 without any defense Either way, even if it is only 1 damage, it's still a negative effect, hence yes, it's the only pet you could say is 'bad' due to the fact it is the only one that has negative effects. Also rarest? Not even CLOSE. I'd say the unlucky yarn, or the puppy are much MUCH rarer.
