And no, as far as I know there isn't any way to prevent boss despawn.
Yes, of course.
Now that you mentioned it:
On PC version, Terraria can have multiple instances opened at the same time if launched using the Terraria.exe file directly isntead of opening it through steam.
That means that theoretically, 2 players can build an arena for a boss and have a third
join them as another instance of terraria, and just stand in the middle of the arena with Shroomite armor and the Putrid Scent.
Thus, if the 2 players died [and only then] the boss will attack the third character instead of despawning.
While it can be considered cheating it may help someone out there. Note that this won't work with expert mode as the boss' health would scale up with the player count increase, making this methond inefficient.
This might sound foolish, but I've never built an arena. In my life. Played Terraria (on mobile mostly, and some on console) for about a year by now, and I haven't once built an arena.
I'm dumb.
