For example, if you've created a world before the underground desert biome was added to the game, that world will still not have this biome.
Things You're Missing:
- 1.2 Jungle Temple, this is necessary to progress to endgame - however that came out in Sept 2013 so your world will have to be really old.
- Some paintings
Solely aesthetic.
- Geyser Traps (1.3, June 2015)
Solely used for killing things but compared to, say, Spear traps they're pretty garbage.
- Functional Statues (1.3)
You won't have the Unicorn statue, for instance, but you only need that for designing adventure maps with spawned mobs / grinding for rare drops
- Granite and Marble Biomes (1.3)
Some unique mobs and some unique drops, but really nothing fretting about. Most of the point of these biomes is their furniture.
- Dungeon Furniture (somewhere within the last two years)
You'll know get Blue Dungeon Chandeliers in the Dungeon. If you don't care about your furniture this isn't a problem.
- Underground Desert (1.3)
While you are missing a whole biome, this isn't a problem as what's in that biome is really crummy, hard to get, and really annoying enemies. It's a pre-hardmode "Throwing" biome, basically - I usually have to make an effort to explore it in my playthroughs. Some nice mobs in Hardmode, but the important ones will spawn on the Surface Desert anyway. So you're not missing much except pre-HM throwing stuff which is very difficult to get your hands on anyway.
So yeah. If it's newer than 2014 you're fine, just missing some furniture.
