Had my fill of stupid for a while.
When you spend all your time holding the ignorant AI group members hands just to watch them freeze to death sitting at the campfire during Mid Spring, yeah enough is enough. 26 times of telling them to do one simple task before I got p.o. and quit telling them to do it. That is when they decided to stop going to the bathroom, fire, or just walking around to spots and doing nothing at all instead of finishing the house build. No, I deal with enough stress from a wife and kids that have to be told 10 times to do something before it gets done already. I am going to wait and see if this ever gets improved.

In my 2238.5 hours of playing this I have never had one person freeze to death, seen NPCs freeze to death, never my own people. Had people pass out from being cold, never had them die though. How do you freeze to death when sitting next to a camp fire? Was the camp fire not lit? Were you repeatedly pulling them from the fire leading them to their own demise? Did you think building the 'house' would save them from the cold? They are better off near the fire, buildings are for sleeping in and storage, while they protect you from the elements you will warm faster near a fire even in the snow and pouring rain. Sounds like your people were just trying to save themselves from your own stupidity, no offense, just saying...

It's possible!

I have discovered with quite a surprise that if chef has cooking set to urgent, but has any other job, they tend NOT to interrupt that other job to urgently go and cook, for example.

And if they are not cooking, they are not lighting campfire. So if you bring someone freezing to a campfire, and it goes out while the cook is not cooking, and your main is exploring, poor sod will freeze in the middle of your camp with tons of toons around.

We really need to have a 'Firekeeper' job!

It is not full proof but they actually will refuel the fire without being set to cook, seen other people make a huge stink about it as they might get interrupted while doing it and end up with a piece of wood stuck in their inventory. Only issue with it is they will only refuel it if it is getting close to going out and they have to be warming themselves while or at the time of it getting close to going out, they will get a campfire sign over their head signaling that they are currently refueling the fire.

As soon as a fire is lit it can be refueled, as long as there is even a tiny sliver of white you can double it over and put another piece of wood on it giving it double the normal time which is quite a long while. Also if the camp fire is not lit but it does have fuel and the person that is cold has something to light the fire or access to something to light the fire they will go start the fire up as soon as they get cold. They however will NOT go sit around the fire if it is not lit and has no fuel, instead they will seek shelter which could include nothing but an outhouse if that is all there is, if they are able to leave camp they will even go to another community or any other fire for warmth, or for that matter any shelter including cars or buildings owned or not. Unless they are bugged out in some way or you the player prevent them from doing so they will not willingly let themselves freeze to death.

It takes a VERY LONG TIME to freeze to death, you should have more than ample time to see that something is wrong and tend to it before someone dies from the cold.

I'm serious :)
I know they were doing it before the last update at least.

Right now I often have both campfires in my base going out every now and then and no one keeps the fire going. If incapacitated toon is left there and no one refuels, they will eventually die and it does not take that long, if they got rain on them during the day and -12 during the night.

Whatever happened recently, player owned group somewhat become less capable at surviving harsh winters without player micromanagement.

make everyone a cook, when it gets cold they light the fires
No chef = No auto fire :)

My solution is just swap to someone grab wood in their pack and auto fill the damn thing myself. Easier and less wasted time and resources.

The fire was lit. All of them were wearing jackets of level 4 insulation. All had beanies on. All had combat boots and combat pants as well. Needed more bed space as they were beginning to get sleep deprived and was trying to get old cabin taken over as it was right beside the fire area. Cold protection is pathetic. In my game it seems to never stop raining so thinking I am in England not the U.S.

It is supposed to take place somewhere in the mid west, Northern USA, Southern Canada. I live in Western Washington, it rains more here, been raining non stop for the last 3 days.

The game takes place in Vancouver, right? That's where Joe went to find Alice in the ending of the first game

Don't know, Bob has never given an exact location. Not sure if the story will directly connect to the last game. If it is supposed to be Vancouver it shouldn't be mostly wilderness and should be more of a city, maybe somewhere nearby though.

I started placing campfires next to each other because I noticed if its snowing 1 campfire IS NOT enough... you either need 2 campfires or a kiln burning 24/7 "sadly they dont sit around the kiln like a campfire lol "
but yeah 2 campfires no more than 2 spaces away works pretty good!

also, people will wander THE WHOLE WORLD, for a item they need and you have discovered SOMEWHERE on the map if you dont set them on zones, usually my cooks just cook and so far no one froze to death. also if you dont tell them to drop items when in base, theyl end up with a lot of misc. items on inventory and not do much of anything since they dont have "space to store" stuff.

I had multiple characters walk out of my fort to get wood, even though there is already wood stacked in a cabin. Dunno man. Zones are your friend.

I miss when the raiders went for buildings instead of just a random ass wall because then I could make a larger compound to encompass a wider area with trees but I just wish there was more mountains I LOVE building high up

also miss being able to terraform / raise the terrain on previous versions but you cant now
