Where do you build your bases?

i've been playing with my little brother but we have a hard time figuring out where to build our base. do we build on cliffs for defense, or near resources for ammo. do we build next to iron, lead or flint? it seems we cant have it all. where do your bases end up being built. what makes you decide on a base location?

im quite simple if its flat ill build there.

Don't feel as though you need to build a permanent base right away. My final base location defenses come first, usually near the edge in an area I can use the terrain to my advantage, far from any exits/entrances to the map. In my last game I built 3 bases, a temporary starting base while I looted and explored the map (hard to choose a good spot if you haven't explored the whole map), after that I built a mining camp, me and my first 2 recruits harvested 1000 lead, after that I moved to my permanent base location.

If you are playing on a large map, then what I like doing is building my base in the middle, so it is easier to access all parts of the maps, just in case you like going to different communities to trade.

You could also take over a base, I often ask survivors for work until I get a quest to wipe out a nearby looter base so I can take over their base and also get paid lol

Hi. I use the cliffs so that my six is always covered. Only three sides to defend. Good luck.

I like building beside rivers when i start due to the lack of being able to build a well and the area around rivers seem to be the flattest, it's all down to personal preference though. I do recommend building near a river though because if you don't have lots of water your group will wander miles away to get a drink whether it's a river or a base and can get your character jumped and killed if you aren't careful.

Also keep in mind to build guard towers as soon as you lay down your walls. A single guard on a tower with an SMG can easily wipe out 5 Looters
