Getting Raided?
Hi guys. Just wondering, what determines the frequency and severity of looters or infected raiding your community? I have about 10 people in my community now and the community itself isn't doing too bad as well but I rarely get sieged. Often times, I get like 1 looter circlejerking around with my watchtower sentry asking "Are they gone?" or a stray infected eating a nearby corpse. I'm on normal difficulty but I bumped up the raiders and infected packs to like 100%.

i find it depends on where u build ur base i tend to build mine behind others so packs and raiders have to go through them first

Makes sense. My other concern is that I don't seem to get raiders/infected parties who target my community specifically to spawn. I have an area map and a radio and all I see are the opportunistic bandit groups and roaming infected. None of those "this group has heard of your community and have noticed it" sort of thing.

The higher your presence gets the more of those type of raiders you will see and the more of them there will be, as Drunkmonk said if they run into another camp or even maybe some infected or other raiders or any number of things before they reach you they may get wiped out or even just a couple survive and they decide not to attack and leave the map. As far as hordes go if you have explored the towns and you have quite a few towns the targeted hordes will come pretty much nonstop, once again though if another community or any other group wipes them out they will not make it to your base. There are other targeted hordes that come from the roads but they do not come that often. Once you start the FEMA quests you will see more targeted raiders than you would probably like to see and those raiders are tough.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I've been so busy gathering resources since I started that I've completely missed that presence bar-meter thing. Mine's pretty low so I guess that explains the lack of sizable threats. Based on my understanding, the presence meter fills up the more people I recruit, the more towns I go to, and...the more "tall structures and fires"? Not really sure how it's calculated. I hope it doesn't mean that I have to recruit 100+ people and build a base half the size of the map just to get a big presence...

Also, what's FEMA and how do I start the quests?

Yes, that is how presence is calculated. I have never had a camp with 100 people, around 40 is the biggest I personally have gone. Even with a smaller camp of say about a dozen you will need to build your camp up, get cement and chicken wire walls, which will require kilns and forges, you will have to craft ammo, same kilns and forges, which means fires, build towers, which are tall structures, keep cooks cooking, more fires, you will likely want to get things like wine (NPCs will take all of the wine if you don't get to it first), books, or any of the other rarer items that appear in towns. Generally speaking your presence will get decently high on it's own even if you are trying to keep it lower. If you actually want to increase your presence just build a bunch of towers, if you are avoiding presence stick to pillboxes.

They are basically what is left of the government, they have supposed safe quarantine zones (QZ). To start the quest start a relationship with someone, it will eventually lead to contacting FEMA.

Thanks a lot! You answered my questions perfectly. Much appreciated.

I think you just discovered how to mitigate "tracking" packs ... :)

Assuming you've triggered the towns and have the potential of getting "tracking town" packs (when you view the map, look at the left side bar), then the main reason could be that you have too many roaming groups on the map. When you start the game, it spawns in the maximum amount (can see this with the radio), but after about a week you can check the map and you'll see about 40% of what you saw on the first day (and that continues through the game).

Non-tracking infected packs (those you are seeing) spawn about 12 times faster than tracking packs (tracking packs spawn between 3 to 6 days per town). Since you also increased the raiders, the non-tracking raiders are also flooding the map frequently.

The game appears to have a max roaming community cap. If you left the settings to default (all 25%) then the groups can spawn as designed because all together they won't reach (what appears to be) the maximum roaming cap.

With all that said, it's just seems to be another contributing factor to what everyone else has mentioned. With 10 members, it's more than enough without having any fires lit, so you should be seeing them on the map.

I've wondered if this is WAD or not, a big question to ask Bob.

make many firecamp and tower building (kiln do not count) the more of it the more the raider spawn with hightech (gun and backpack) with default setting - consider they are not attack not getting attack by other community first

Kilns do count.
