Character management suggestion
I am enjoying the game a lot. It's pretty much all I hoped it would be. However in my main playthrough I experienced something I hope can be fixed. My main character was out scavenging, when a "friendly" looter came to my community. They demanded my guard hand over their gold, but since they didn't have any, they gave them their weapons, food and other items and the looter was let into camp.
I hope the developer will add some sort of commands to give to followers, so I get better control of my group. I had 7 people in my community with shotguns, bows, guns and meleeweapons, so my group should have been able to deal with one looter.

This is based on personality, the more aggressive will say "Try it", the more cowardly will give in, this is also how the looters work, a more aggressive personality will attack when responded with "Try it", a more cowardly looter will say "Woah woah.... I was just joking around you know?" You can find out about personality traits through others in the same group through "What's up?" It will take a lot of talking and a good memory to figure out everyone's personality.

Unless you are playing with invisible strain off I highly suggest you keep your gates closed. There are many other reasons to keep it closed and this issue you had was one of them.

I agree. The first thing I did was build gates and walls (just wood for now) and immediately put all of the gates to CLOSE for EVERYONE. I've heard of too many issues where "nice pals" of the apocalypse come along and "gently coerce you for money". >.>

I get that, but the looter was outside my camp talking to the guard in a tower. I will try to change the gates to closed for everyone, to see if that helps. I understand how the personalities work, but I was hoping there could be some sort of pack-check, since I had 7 well-armed members against 1 looter, instead of it being just that persons personality.

Good suggestions. The original standing order as well as defensive positions + backup = courage fuel. This will of course result in more wars starting when you're not looking. So imo would have to be part of a more comprehensive overhaul/expansion of diplomacy which may or may not come.

For now your only option is to immediately pause, get over to that toon, and manage that circumstance yourself. Which is to say start shooting, or walk away and let them start shooting, or pay. Also prepare for a full assault shortly from almost everyone that community can muster. From a RP perspective, it's a shake down. Shoot the messenger and start a war, or pay.

The obvious workaround to your current problem is make sure there's a gold ring on each of your community members so they can meet the demand should they/you choose to.
