Quest: find a bottle of wine and return to <name of trader>
Quest: kill a member of <looter camp> for <name of leader>
This kind of thing?
I think that sounds a little derivative since you can already get quests from other camps, but I am genuinely curious why that appeals to you.
they can be cooking, scouting a place/house on a map, killing a spawned horde of zombies, planting seeds in ground, being a farmer....
the more non combat quests would open this game up
I agree, and perhaps it's something we can look forward to when the main story has been written. The forum members have had good ideas for the past few months. This isn't the first survival game out there, the other games we've played or seen all have "activities" or "quests" to make the game a more lively experience. I wouldn't be surprised if this game had similar elements.
No, I wasn't even thinking about that - I was aiming for my own sandbox roleplaying purposes.
E.g. imagine that you're a part of a bandit camp as a starting point. A nobody. My task is to scout the area and rob people. So you go around, set up traps, rob wanderers, enslave them to work in your fields... etc. If one day you become strong enough, you can separate from your community and start your own. Or, whatever newcumbers you bring back - you have control of those people. Others are true NPC's. Now you are no longer alone, now you have your hit team.
Or, as Vuyek said, perks of simply being a farmer. Non violent gameplay. You take care of your people by making sure they have plenty of food in the storage. Zero fighting skill, zero weapons, archery... but farming and cooking at a masterchef level.
Or an evil gameplay:
knockout mechanics are already there. You kidnap people, create a farm surrounded by a wire fence and force them to work the field for you and your company. Then you establish a trade route with allied looters and trade your food for ammo, armor and weapons.
Or a merchant gameplay:
You have a small caravan of 3-4 guys that are carrying those big backpacks and you travel across the map accumulating wealth. Now the question is what could be added to the game to be worthy of having so much gold? Maybe to hire a high grade mercenary team for protection... that have a weekly fee.
Or be that mercenary team:
Use inspiration from Kenshi. Have ability to build training field. Fitness, Archery range, Shooting range... etc, and train your guys to be a hammer. Then go around offering your service to the weaker communites.
... etc
This game is a true hidden gem with such a great potential.
Your variants on the sandbox can make great ideas for the main story, allowing the actual story to be driven by the player's actions. Indeed, this game has great potential.
You are the white strain. Your goal is to infect everybody on map :=D
Great idea for alternative playthrough. :D I'd definitely try it.
