Suggestion for Location Map and FoW
When I obtain the location map it's wonderful, especially at beginning of a game. BUT. in spite of that I still want to see which areas I've been to and which ones I haven't, so I end up leaving map behind or seliing it. I'd love to see a toggle where I can go back and forth between fog of war (or undiscovered area fog, whatever) and the totally clear map. Not a big issue, but it would make those maps more useful.

Personally I think the found map shows too much of the map as once you have it there are no "surprises" left.

Given it's called "A map of the local area" maybe there could be several of them, each showing different areas - not always the area you are in either - so you have to collect all of them before you can see the entire map.

Yeah, that would be better, like collecting torn map pieces that can give you a goal to find all pieces, like a puzzle (if you want all map revealed without discovering it yourself).

As for the topic though, I'd like to find a Crayon or Chalk or even a Pencil to manually mark a ✔ on my map for the places I've been to. Especially marking which community is hostile or friendly with an ❌ or ⭕ and can even use these for other means such as "check this place out later".

Yes, this is better.

The map, when found, probably shouldn't show the camps anyway as why would they be on a printed map if they only existed since the zombies.

It could show roads, rivers, towns hills etc, and then, as suggested you have to fill the rest in as you discover them.

This would make exploring much more interesting

mouse over locations you haven't visited are already marked as undiscovered

rather than "discovering" the entire area, how about just using a pregenerated simplified map (e.g. no color, non-"satellite" image, just simple "drawn" map lines/shapes showing locations of roads, rivers, abandoned towns and bases) in place of the default grey areas. It is static, and just used in place of the grey blank for areas yet to be visited, and will disappear slowly (as the default grey areas) as the player explores the lands.

iow, the whole "map" will disappear totally once the player has visited everywhere.

personally, I don't think breaking up map into pieces is that appropriate (wrt to overall gameplay) unless we have very large maps in the future. If it is something like 1 piece ~ 1x1 km, then maybe it is still ok, though. otherwise, it may just be too tedious to "collect", considering that for some games, we may not even get maps until some wandering traders spawn with them, and the map may totally become useless when we explore the entire area. Map is an early-mid game help, so should be available (as a whole) while it is still useful?
