gate permission
Suddenly I get extorted by some neutral guy which I have never seen before, or know the faction, in my own base. Character autonomously replied "try it" and he turned hostile.. How did he get past the gate in the first place, since he is a stranger/faction which I have no previous contact with? Did my people just let them in? (similar to how "friendly" NPC bases let me in) Does the "friends" in gate settings means any "yellow" person? if so, why are there no settings for "green" only? i.e. only your community can open the gate.

Wish there is a more complex black list /white list system though, to override gate settings, so that you can prevent known trouble makers from entering, yet still keep gate open for other members of his faction.

If they aren't red they can come in unless you set the policy to always closed.

There seems to be a missing "owner" category.

Basically close your outside gates off to all by setting them to "always closed", then no-one will be able to come in. I've found this useful to prevent refugees from barging into my base and potentially being and doing invisible strain stuff to destroy it from the inside out without a way to tell them to get lost.

The only downside is if you don't have trees or rocks to mine readily available inside your walls, then you'll have to transport it inside manually or open up and risk some stranger getting inside.

i used to build base near a big tree area and river, so my fence can cover them though using only wood fence, i use it to train my construction lvl anyway

or if it a bit far i use to have one company for each lumber jack (the one with lower status management but high in firearm or archer or hand to hand

if totally enclosed, no rabbits?

damn, we're not building a base... we're building a vault!!
Have the entire inner city closed off, and only an "airlock" area with door to outside enabled for friends. Build a dummy campfire there. That way traders can still come, but cannot enter inner city, and you will have to manually control somebody to come out to trade for stuff.

I really think I should go full lock door policy, given the lack of owner-only use rights to the gates... at least during winter till planting season (it's early spring, but still below freezing point).

Apparently, food supply is scare for my neighbors... at first, I notice them going all over the map... in retrospect, might be looking for food... Then they started coming over to my base one by one and asking to buy what is little left of my food and my idiotic community members have been selling our last supplies, roast rabbits which were the only thing left in winter, and had to be hunted because the traps don't work without carrots.

damn... I just hope I can last till it finally gets warm enough to plant...

Plan for next game year, if I survived..

1. Lock doors completely during latter part of winter. I don't care if they starve when my people runs into risk of starving. Keeps out other unwanted NPCs that harass my people too.

2. Build a small fenced up area with some storage and lock the gate, to prevent my own stupid people from eating up what is needed for next planting season. In fact, I should lock up all my raw food supply and manually access it to cook food so that all of them are "forced" to eat actually cooked food...
