I'm sorry you experienced this. If you please research this though. It's been asked multiple times. Save tokens are not required. You can turn that option off in character creation, next to Invisible Strain. Where you can save normal from the menu.
I must have missed that option... sorry for the rant: you're a life saver.
Hit F8 to open the Dev menu. Then choose Gameplay Debug near the bottom. Then uncheck "Save Tokens Required" at the bottom.
I think the devs should make the "save without tokens" the default option.
New players like me have no idea or don't pay much attention on their first game to all the available options for a new game. This way after becoming experienced the player could still activate the token system later, but at least the first few games new players won't have the same problem I had. I was literally going to reimburse the game had not a the dev explained this to me!
Also, when you're a newbye you die a lot more and losing all the progress each time can become frustrating if you know what I mean... so being able to save as often as you want it's a win win IMO.
Ideally, the default should be save tokens off.
Deactivated should be standard and activated optional.
I'm just saying the default for new games should be the opposite of what it is now.
I'm sure in time, when I get better at the game, I'll dig into save tokens too, but for now...
I'd assume when you tick off the "invisible strain" off. It turns off random zombies with survivors?
