This game is just far too hard!!!
The fighting mechanics need a lot of work. Compared to the first game, where you could survive an encounter of a few green strain zombies without any weapons, it is damn near impossible to do so now. I really hope the game becomes more balanced once the single player campaign is released.

Does anyone have any tips for combat? How are you guys surviving this game? Are people using a controller or a mouse and keyboard? Any tips would be helpful!!

Target legs in multiple encounters to buy yourself time to pick them off.
Buildings are cars are good to fight around to restore stamina.

Honestly I think it's fine. Go for the legs, otherwise you're doing it wrong

yea combat is a bad design, the combat is made for slow pacing but the zombies are on coke

zombies do need a bit of a tweak with how many swarm you when you start. The battle mechanics dont bug me to much, just go for the legs for. Hunting is whats frustrating me

You just need practice, go for the legs. Keep playing.

It's all about stealth, if you get attacked by more than 2 zombies at once at the start your a dead man, try getting at least 1 star on stealth when you start and make sure to be careful around towns, throwing wine bottles to create distractions

Use bow to cripple legs, then you have option to engage or flee. And dont fight near big towns, zeds can hear it and gather really fast.

Have to agree with OP. Needs more world gen options for those who want a more chill experience. Save scumming seems really cheesy, but it's the only way to survive for more than a few minutes for me. I sneak around and try to avoid contact wherever possible, but as soon as I'm in combat with anyone, I just get swarmed.

Upgrade your fitness and melee, That way. You'll be a zombie killer in no time.
Green strain and blue strain zombies don't bother me anymore just because my character is too powerful with a machete.

Trust me, i doubt we'll get more world gen options judging on how the dev's reacted to my suggestion for more world options. My best bet is to wait for mods.

I wouldn’t write it off - the Dev has been really responsive to community feedback. I think the issue is that it would be a beast for slower machines to cope with... but it might be something that gets implemented. Even if it doesn’t work out, I suspect the mod scene will be amazing, and will address any issues quite quickly.

Mate, I know what you mean - I felt the same when I first started playing it. It seemed much harder than the original. However, as you progress (and practice) you get the hang of it quite quickly. Please don’t feel that’s me telling you to “get gud” - I hate the notion - it just takes a little while to become fully proficient with the the combat system. I use mouse and keyboard and got chewed up badly in my first few encounters. Fortunately it was with Green strain, and I managed to barter for some antigen before I turned. Keep at it - it’s definitely worth investing your time in.

Good luck!

You have to fight people too so running is useful then, it's also useful for when you cripple a zombie's legs by attacking at their legs (you might need a certain melee weapon skill level for that I don't remember)

As for getting jumped before you find a weapon, stealth is key. You must take your time, hide in trees and make sure you approach towards the wind to avoid them smelling you
