Age of Empires Online

Age of Empires Online

The Rest of AOEO
While there have already been threads about the game closure, we published an official blog on the topic.
For all of you who are not aware of the game closure:

Age of Empires Online will close on July 1, 2014 and all purchases have been disabled as part of the PC Marketplace shutdown.

Is there any chance some sort of offline patch could be done so it can be played offline? I know this is unlikely, but I know some people enjoy this game, and it will be a shame to see it go on July 1st 2014.

Yes please make it an offline game and keep the civ/etc packs for sale, could it still make a decent profit over time? By just pulling the plug @ July 1st the game and the chance of making any money (and us having fun :)) is over for sure :(

As production for the game has ended a while ago, we do not have any developers to make changes to the game. You can find more information here: http://ageofempiresonline.com/en/articles/blog-20130103

Yah I got the same response over Facebook.

Is there nobody anywhere that could make changes? What about the AOE2 HD team?

Give people who spent money on your game a copy of AOE2.

You can be sure that i wont buy any game from them anymore and ill pass this on to friends , sure they will still make money but at least done my part and for the future should think twice before letting dedicated gamers down its going to bite you in the ass one day

purchased the game for $2.50 but when I finally launched, it asks for CD key. This game should not have been availalbe to purchase if it was no longer available to get a CD Key. It does not show up in any microsoft live account as downloaded either. Purchase was on October 6th, but after reading some forums, the Microsoft game launcher appears to have been discontinued back in August. At least steam gets to have the last laugh.

AOEO2? Any takers?

Well the game has "Online" in its very name, so from the beginning it was unreasonable to expect it to last forever. It is, however, unfortunate that there isn't anyone available at Microsoft to patch this game to allow offline gameplay. It would be an awesome gesture, but I'm afraid there's just not enough interest. Microsoft listened when people said they wanted AoEII on Steam with support to Windows 7 and high resolutions, but AoEO never got the same kind of love by the community.

It should be on your Steam library.

If you have previously downloaded the game through Steam and don't see it in your Library, you should try downloading it through GfWL.

Valve's EULA has nothing to do with Microsoft games. Valve did not make AOE:O.

I'm guessing this has been considered, but would like to hear an official answer;

Isn't it possible to just keep a minimum of game/realm servers (even if only 1) going and have people play there. Instead of closing and killing it off completely? You don't have to keep supporting it with new content, nodbody expects this. But ending the game the way you are intending feels like theft, at least to me, one of those that spent money on this before it went free-to-play...

Surely the costs of running one server won't outweigh the costs of a damaged reputation.

If things stay as they are it will mean I have already bought my last game from Microsoft studios/ Gas Powered Games ever.
