It's pretty nice honestly considering it's easily the grindiest tree in the bunch.
Jade Tree is unlocked a few levels after Gold Tree (about halfway through chapter 1) when you unlock the 2nd bit of the hospital that gives you arena access.
Only Topaz is cross-save, Jade isn't.
What exactly is "impossibly stupid"? Do you mean that the game is too easy or too hard? I really don't know what you're referring to here.
There is really nothing game breaking about the Topaz tree, upgrades are meant to carry over and they're incremental, only getting some of them will hardly make a difference in a new save except for Coin Value.
Also, if you're not progressing through NG+ then you haven't even touched most of the Topaz upgrades yet (there are a total of 5 areas in the Topaz minigame).
I started a brand new save after I finished getting all Topaz upgrades. The main difference is that I was making a lot more money per level but other than that, the game didn't feel much different. The first levels are certainly easier due to being able to acquire upgrades faster and starting with some bonuses like increased crit chance and multiplier, but as the game progresses, it feels like NR as it usually is.
Game breaking from the perspective of starting a new game after you have already started NG+.
Second: I have 100 hours in the game. and 20 years as a game critic. When I say it is game breaking, I mean that it has forced me to decide between whether or not to play the game anymore. Simply put: you did not take the criticism in the spirit it was meant, and failed to grasp the message that it was relaying:
IN SHORT:
1: I LOVE THIS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GAME. I LOVE IT SO MUCH THAT I AM POSTING ABOUT ANY OF THIS. So if you have a problem with either: 1: me not playing the game enough after 100 hours, or B: me pointing out a very terrible flaw, then you need to question yourself, and not me.
2: I don't know why I am wasting my fingers typing this, but let me explain further what I meant in a clear way that a child could understand, and maybe we could reach an accord at the expense of my wasted time:
I started a new save slot after getting to the end of NG+.
I expected to be able to rely on the coin buffs from topaz tree in this new game, as it was not a NG+ save slot. These coin buffs were (and I think ARE: HENCE "GAME BREAKING") for those who wanted to SEE WHAT THE GAME WAS LIKE WITHOUT ANY OF THE BUFFS.
FINALLY: and in conclusion, I thought this thread was closed BEFORE I SPENT 10 hours in my new saved game, with nothing but topaz tree gravestones instead of possible buffs.
If you need me to diagram the genius of this game for you, then it is YOU (rather than I) who needs to understand its skill tree and varieties of play approaches more.
In conclusion (and yes: thank you: for wasting my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time writing this, to painstakingly explain to either reactionary morons or thin-skinned idiots from the game with no cpaacity for criticism -regardless of how constructive it is)... IN SHORT:
If you are an IDIOT, then yeah: Topaz Tree probably takes you a thousand ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ years. If you're not, you use the coins you get from each normal level completion and leverage them to buy the coin buffs. If you do that, you eventually end up with tons of tombstones instead of coin buff givers. This is game breaking for those who start a new game outside of NG+ in that (evidently, unlike you) you have defeated all those Topaz Tree Quest Givers, meaning that you are penalized (in that: you cannot get coin bonuses because they are all dead) after starting a new save slot after starting NG+ game. And YES: I a,m better at the game than you are.
Thanks. Doucheface.
I think you seem a bit confused.
You're obviously not someone with 20 years of being a game critic, because no one with that much experience would ever in a million years be as hostile as you are. Also, show me every single website you worked for. And every magazine.
You're also directly contradicting yourself with your own words.
So, take a chill pill, please.
The Developer of this game doesn't want this forum to turn into Twitter. :P
Also, you seem to misunderstand that all the bonuses from the Topaz Tree carry over to other saves.
So, you NEVER lose the coin bonuses at all. So, it makes no sense to ever CLAIM you lose the coin bonuses when they APPLY to your new game file.
So, why would you say something that is completely incorrect?
Now with your issue. The topaz upgrades are shared for all playthroughs, so you see tombstones in new games because of this. You are not penalized, the coin buffs are already unlocked and applied.
Oh the irony. How very mistaken you are mr. smartypants. Calm your tits, look at your coin value CAREFULLY, realize you actually unlocked the buff for all playthroughs and move on. (Maybe apologize for being such a douche while being so wrong while you're at it.)
You can't ever claim people are missing the point here when your point is literally invalid by being incorrect.
You were hostile. You're not a game critic at all. So, basically, you insulted game critics everywhere.
I don't think they'll collective sue you...but still.
Also, goodbye.
- Dude tries saying something is a flaw when absolutely no one else sees it as a flaw;
- Tries to pull rank on "being a critic" despite no one knowing who he is;
- Calls everyone names for pointing out the Topaz tree is not actually "game breaking";
- Says he's better at the game than others are (lol no you're not);
- Misses the point while telling the dev himself he's missed the point, then leaves.
No, it is *not* game breaking. The first time you play the game, you won't have access to the Topaz upgrades and as they're incremental, they will hardly make a difference until you've accumulated many of them. NG+ playthroughs are harder, so they won't make NG+ easier either. And the whole idea of that tree, besides adding small bonuses, is that once you've done everything in the game, you can start a new game with extra advantages. Again, not the first time you play the game.
This is akin to RE games that grant you rewards when you achieve certain milestones in the game, like unlocking certain weapons with infinite ammo. The first time you play the game, you'll be playing it normally, then you can replay the game while one-shotting everything with a Rocket Launcher if you want.
Also, if that's you being "respectful", then please go to any dictionary and look up the definition of "respectful".
And please don't add me. I don't know what you're trying to achieve by trying to add me, but I want nothing to do with you.
More on point, I think there should be option to turn off the topaz benefits because there are so many other things you can turn on and off. I could be very wrong, but the only way not have Topaz benefits at all, is to remove all saves.
As for the topic of "gaming breaking", there are some dominant strategy issues to the game overall, which I might talk about after I finish playing this game, but for me game breaking deviates or ends the intended purpose of the game, temporally or permanently. Everything I played so far, seems like its intended to be played with.
But anyway, I am going to continue to play this game.
Respectfully Yours,
Yuga-Suggah
