maybe he just didn't progress far enough but he captured 3-4 commanders, destroyed an alien base and says he researched everything he can so far -- he is still using the starter rifles with ultra ammo hehe, because the beamer gun is the only other gun he found and its heavier and inaccurate for only 5 damage difference.
But there is only 1 alien research weapon, the beamer gun and 2 types of ammo for it?
he didn't unlock any positronic weapons, maybe thats where he can find new rifles and better ammo :) thanks for the swift reply!
Commanders tell about the gate. After that nothing. no new weapons no nothing. also the same bonesetter enemies all the time every time. There is a bug in the research tree somewhere
And there are many differcences to UFO 1 ET in the Techtree from what I can see.
Hope UFO 1 ET get an Refit with the cool Features of UFO 2 ET to play it again.

there's only what is described above... beamer gun with 2 ammo types, regular and heavy lol.
My friend has about 7 commanders interrogated now and 5-6 bases with thunder interceptors... but his guys on the ground are still using the starter rifle with the ultra pierce ammo because there has literally been no other tech to research yet that has rifle/firing weapons for the ground forces. (again, aside from the very very first alien gun you encounter which is the beamer.. .which sadly has pretty bad accuracy and not enough dmg to make up for that compared to the regular starter rifles).
Shame to see they dropped the ball with this long awaited sequal
What I announced in an other Part is, that UFO 2 ET have Elements from X-COM: TftD, and new XCOM / Phoenix Point Ideas combined with UFO 1 ET.
That means, that if the cool Tech-Tree-Element from X-COM: TftD is in, you made an Research-Failure. There were 2 or 3 Researches which you have to do later, to get the medium and later high Research-Things.
That the Commanders get more knowleage of the Alien-Tech etc. like in UFO 1 ET is very cool. That you get Photon-Tech directly to the beginning is like the Laser-Tech in UFO 1 ET.
Sure it´s not the greatest Tech, but you can do much with it, where in UFO 1 ET you had to research about 33 to 40 % more to get an better Armor, better Defenses etc.
I´m not so far yet, but I have the Ultra-Ammo, Photon-Armor, Medi-Kits, Photon-Canons, Photon-Grenades and Grenade-Launchers / Rocket-Defenses / Photon-Defenses as well as the Secrets from the Scouts.
The second UFO get fragmented atm and the secrets from him with the Secrets it contains.
Short said: To get Informations from higher Aliens (like commanders) you need an big Ground-Knowledge (Tech, Weapons, Armors, UFOs and the Secrets etc.). That´s in all such Game the Major.
One more thing: Many Players had aggrieved that the Tech-Tree from UFO 1 ET were in Weapons-Part to linear. Now it´s better handeld and you aggrieve again. Either the Liniear-Part or like it is now. An between is not possible.
and still cant found out how to get positronic tech or whatever
Before you go to that do all Basic-Knowledge you can do.
Yeah, I have seen the 3rd Ammo for the Rifle in Pictures and Vids already. But the upgraded Ultra AP Ammo against the Standard-Ammo for the Rifle isn´t that bad too for the first Upgrades.
