Give me a reason to buy this
With many XCOM-like games I find myself wondering "Why should I play this and not just boot up UFO Defense, TftD or Apocalypse?" Found myself wondering this with Xenonauts, the first ET and UFO Aftermath. If they do too little different you may as well just play the game they're inspired by since the experience is the same, oftentimes worse than the game they're inspired by.

I want something worthwhile to be different. I won't buy the same game over and over. And I mean different for the better. So, why should I buy this and not go and play all the other XCOM-likes or hell, even download UFO: Alien Invasion again?

... 'cause you miss the 90s and now you can have them all over again :AlienTarget:

I like the UFOx Extraterrestrial games better than the original from the 90ies because it removes some of the annoyances (like having to manually collect stuff in a mission) and tedious micromanagement and focusses on the important things. Aside of that i like new games even if they are similar just because then you can discover new maps, new technologies and you don't know everything in advance.

I don´t give a Reason. Either you buy it or not to get the full Storyline, which begun with UFO 1 ET.

The UFO2ET sticks to the original 1993 - UFO:Enemy Unknown (Xcom:UFO Defence ) gaming system quite intentionally. The original UFO is cool and has only a few flaws. The UFO2ET has however some new features. IT ic completly 3D, some levels on boats, in underground, realtime fights and ship bases on the Geoscape, UFO swarms, SAM sites on CAF bases firring not only when the base is attacked but also against passing vesseles, Mortar, Chemical warefare, personal shields, jetpacks, aliens releasing sub aliens, and many imortant unique items and so on.. So if you truly like 1993 UFO:Enemy Unknown/ Xcom:UFO defence, buying UFO2ET is a great choice.
The UFO2 is also a tribute to UFO shado, classic TV series, that had inspired and influenced developpers. You may want to wait for a DLC with other new features and items and perhaps incorporating Moonbase level, if the game reaches its break even point, which now sadly really does not at all....

You may want to make some special TBS game of your own?

No reason needed. Either you want it or not.

Just want to press on this issue as I see some reviewers are ..., eh, probably children. If you played games back in the 90s, and you have fond memories of proper XCom, then this game is a no-brainer. It suffers from issues that almost all games will do when stuck in development hell for a decade, but it's a true re-imagining of the classic early 90s XCom. I really do not understand what else there is to complain about.

Now, leave some money for the developers, so they can fix bugs and issues, and at least break even. You owe it to your child self, and your (most likely) pirated copy of XCom back then!

As I said; I played the original X-Com. If this is the same game then why would I spend 30€ if I can get the same experience by playing something I already own? I have fond memories of X-Com but that doesn't mean I want to just keep buying reskins that do nothing to set themselves apart or are even more buggy/broken or have less to offer.

That's why I recommend Phoenix Point. It's just what you're looking for and is an amazing game

i've played all of these style of games, over the years. they all have their own little things that make them different and fun or unique.

this one has slightly more zoomed in graphics, so you can see things better, but it also h as the fun real time air battles,

theres a few little things i would have prefered to be changed, but they are not enough to ruin the enjoyment of the game. for example, i feel like the starting gun has the worst firing sound effect i've ever heard, it feels like a slingshot, not a alien killing rifle. and i would have loved if the dev had borrowed the idea that xenonaughts used that gives you the option to just blow up a crash site for a tiny amount of money, rather than making you feel like you 'have' to go and do every single mission or suffer penalties.

Well, there are some influencers on the Steam that are payed for mocking other games and/or promoting other games.

I appreciate one gets to know that you like this game less and that game more, nevertheless if you like some other game more, buy it, play it and possibly write something about it for instance like the curators do on their pages, however not here. That is my recommendation. Thank you.

We do not say, that the UFO2 is flawless, however it is a clone to 1993 X-COM:UFO Defence (UFO:Enemy Unknown). UFO2ET hosts many improvements, unique items, it is made in 3D and provides bunch of new levels - islands, underground bases, naval boats... It is also tribute to UFO:S.h.a.d.o that is alma mater to UFO2ET and X-COM:UFO Defence.

I like all Xcom like games and I want to play this one if I can get it to launch
Phyroks Jun 17, 2021 @ 2:31pm
I honestly think you are better off playing UFO1: Extraterrestrials. This one seems to have some major issues at launch and it looks like its the same game but with way less options to customize the game (and most importantly mods)

Maybe in few months this is worth looking at.

Why do ppl think its fun to run into problems/bugs or missing features? Maybe in few months this is worth looking at (like i said earlier)... but that depends what progress is made on this game.

@ Skalisko: In every Game there are some narrow-minded people which have build up their Mind before they played or testet the Game.

An similar Thing you can see in the Discussion from Xenonauts 2. Don´t discuss with that People. You can´t discuss with them, dosen´t matter which Arguments for the Game you bring in and why that and that get in.

After I and others made that Lesson in Xenonauts 2, we ignore that narrow-minders. Either that narrow-minders get normal or they get fully Ignored forever.

Concentrate on the Players, Modders and Helpers instead which like the Game and bring in more Suggestions for an DLC or Upgrades as well as overseen found light, medium and heavy Bugs / Failures.
