UFO2: Extraterrestrials

UFO2: Extraterrestrials

Finally finished.
Overall, not a bad game. Satisfied my xcom itch.

Some suggestions:
- have some facility that decodes the alien type on the ufo. Maybe the mission it is doing as well. Just so we can prep our weapons for the mission.

- the game needs to convey to the player on how to progress. I had the photon tech for the longest time and I think there was come research bug of some sort. Maybe put some OR conditional statements for the pre-requisites instead of having it locked on ONE alien specie. Based on your XML format, I think all the conditions are AND. ie condition1 AND condition2 AND condition3 unlocks this tech. Try having duplicate tech declarations to get the OR condition.
IE <positronic beamer>
<Pre-req>
<hardened bonesetter>
</pre-req>
</positronic beamer>

and have a second clause as an OR condition

<Positronic beamer>
<pre-req>
<giant bird of prey>
</pre-req>
</positronic beamer>

Have them both in. But I don't know how your code works. just a suggestion to spread the tech pre-reqs around.

- Make the enemies less reaction trigger happy.

- soldier customization.

- the tech tree seems larger in UFO1. I'm sure the DLC will add more content in the future.

I understand resources are tight. Just my $0.02

Congratulations on finishing. I'm trying to finish tonight.

I agree that the game should give you some more information on how to progress.

By the way,

After I finished all of the research, I did not know how to progress to the ending. So, I pretty much stopped playing the missions. I would just keep shooting down UFOs. I was guessing that the GamePeriod value needed to reach a certain number before the endgame triggered. I would periodically check this value and the GamePeriodTriggerCount in the save file. When GamePeriodTriggerCount gets to 10 (for most Game Periods)) the game increases the GamePeriod an resets GamePeriodTriggerCount to 0.

The alien base showed up for me shortly after I got to GamePeriod 28.

I, too, was agressive shooting down UFO's. Ironically, it was to let the massive patrol vessel come a long and let it build a base. I found it odd that a large number of ufos followed. Possibly trying to overwhelm the player.

Btw, thanks for your extraction tool. Made the game less punishing. =D

You're welcome. Though most of the credit for the tool should go to the original authors. I just made some changes.

I just finished the game a little while ago, and decided to look into how the endgame is triggered. Basically, after you finish researching "The Escape Plan", the game will add an event to your game that will occur in 21 to 40 days. When the event finally runs, the aliens instantly get the base, and you are notified.

I finished the game yesterday and I would have not had any idea from what I saw in-game as to how to get to the end-game mission.
Instead, I got the information from these forums and watching a playthrough video series.

In fact, I am still somewhat unsure as to what the exact trigger mechanic was for the protected alien base to spawn.
I assume the trigger is finishing the mind shield research + wait time, but it might as well be reaching era 7 and then some wait time.

Edit: I can see from post above how the protected base gets spawned. Neither of my assumptions were correct.

Over all a good game in it's genre with some issues and bugs and the playtime is stretched out far too long for the content that the game currently has. I finished with played time of 97h.

I will need to see if I can be bothered to make the effort to make a post game review and expressions post at some point.

Unfortunately, I quickly lost interest in ufo2 when I noticed that a few important things were missing and started to play ufo1 again ... :D I think I'll wait for the dlc's until I will play it over.

I like the Ideas involved in UFO 2 ET.

Like upgrade your Vehicles with better Armor and Weapons.

Or integrate Helicopter in the Game, which get completely Missing in UFO 1 ET.

As a basic for testing in UFO 2 ET it can be if some more work get done the new Standard for such Games. An similar Concept in Xenonauts 2 get in too.

The Devs wanna bring in more of that and other cool things. The chance for that they have in the Refit from UFO 1 ET, which get in WIP wife UFO ET Gold get Stopped for Several Reasons.

The other cool Thing is that you get Ammo-Upgrades for existing Rifles, Pistols and similar.

And I love that the Aliens in UFO 2 ET get upgraded Step by Step and not in the Eat or Die Way in UFO 1 ET.

Yes the integration if the hellicopter to UFO1 sounds reasonable. Thank you for the idea.

You are welcome Skalisko.

ufo1 eat or die way? maybe it is because i play the unimod ufo1, but in ufo1 the aliens upgrades the same way.

helicopters sounds cool, yes, but only for defend a static area(because they never can hunt ufos with their limited speed).

upgrades to ammo and vehicles is of course cool! unfortunately there are not much in yet, but maybe in the future i hope? ;) ufo2 can generally handle more usable technology - trees - for weapons, armor and upgrades ...

and stop talking about pistols in ufo 2.. there are not a single one... sadly! .. :P

Yes, that is their disadvantage, on the other hand they can eat quite serious damage and are fairly cheaper.

The Photon-Weapon from the Aliens look in the Pictures like Pistols as well as the End-Tech you use before the running to Planet Esperanza.

But if we don´t wanna have Pistols what about MPs?
ChaoZ Jul 8, 2021 @ 10:01am
i wanna have pistols!! and MP! .. give me all this stuff! :D and no, the photon weapon maybe looks like pistol, but the weight and strength requirement tells another story!
kingarthur772 Jul 9, 2021 @ 1:52am
Maybe they are Alien-MPs and for us Humans they are Heavy Weapons or either Rifles like the AK1.

ChaoZ Jul 9, 2021 @ 10:26am
and that's exactly where one of the greatest funkillers lies for me: i can't use alien technologies for my soldiers and build my own weapons like in ufo1. :)
