Having said that, I don't believe that a post-hoc rationale is necessarily enough to remove any fear or trauma experienced prior. As an extreme situation, think about mock executions. That can obviously still leave trauma.
If you're also a pansy, or someone who avoids frights for whatever reason, I'd still say its very mild. Go for it unless you can't handle a single fright. It's just slamming doors, darkness, and red liquid, and if I can get through it with heart troubles, you probably can. But I did feel like it was unnecessary (although do respect that most players aren't like me), and that maybe something should be mentioned on the store page. I don't avoid frights just because I don't like them - my body can't really take them anymore, and there are people with different situations but similar limitations. A warning along the lines of "short light horror section" would have conveyed things without people having to spoil themselves in this thread.
I'm probably just writing this to vent after getting spooked, I'm aware. But damn, was I spooked, and damn, was I not expecting it.
I know in the end of the horror-esque level it explains the "blood" with it being red paint, but I experienced it more in the way the the red paint was a distraction, and there was actually more to the horror.
Some people say that there's no jumpscares, but the doors slamming shut by themselves is quite a scare for me. Especially that one freezer door that someone mentioned before in this thread, I'd say that's a genuine jumpscare. At nearly the end of the level, there's also a cutting board with a knife in, and a flashlight that shows the shadow of the knife on the wall. If you interact with the flashlight, it turns off and back on again after a few seconds, but the knife will be gone. That last one is not too scary, but I just wanted to mention it.

This entire game is meant to get you to see things in a different perspective!
I would encourage you to not let this part hold you back from buying the game. The pros outweigh the cons.
"Isn't that what you came here for?" ♥
* Play some happy sounding music. The level doesn't last long.
* Or better yet, minimize the screen! It'll be harder to see some stuff if the spooky hallway is a quarter of the entire monitor!
* When it was too dark to see where I was going, I dragged one of those exit signs around (I made it huge) - it kinda helped. And it was funny. x)
* Might be able to turn the gamma up a bit to see better.
* Turn the volume down! Works wonders.
I really loved this game. Towards the end, I had a huge paradigm. Kinda how the game works, in general. Gave me a lot of hope. It was cool. ♥
A great example would be rollar coasters, I like them and don't like them. There was one where the first hill was *so* scary, I didn't think I'd make it. So I rode it again, and this time I closed my eyes going up the first/beginning part of the coaster. *Literally* felt nothing going down the first hill. Some wind on my face. It seemed like the scare for the hill was more visual than anything. In this game, we can modify a few things to make that level a little less scary.
Also, in some of the dark hallways - that's where you can find the stars. :3 Constellation rooms, eh. :) Pretty stuff.
It scared my niece, too. Play it for them - run through it where they're not able to see, if they are frightened by it. It's not blood. ♥ It's red paint.
Yah, may be very frightening for 7 years old. I never let kids watch stuff w/scary images/horror movies. Some things it's best to watch or play yourself first. Even some Disney movies have junk in them to teach people to literally have like, addictions.
Best to check things out first, especially if you have smaller people. My step-ma used to watch horror films all the time when I was very little. I hated it. O,o
Oooh! Also, have you ever heard of playing Tetris to ward off scary dreams/recurrent vision - right after you have them? I think it's called "the Tetris effect". This works wonders for me and folks I know. I read something about it on the net, so decided to give it a try. I keep Tetris loaded on a handheld device for this very purpose! :) If you have a small person that's had a nightmare, or you yourself, give this a try.
No I hadn't! Good idea!
