Alarms and Extinguishers are usually placed in the open or are easily visible.
Constellations are hidden rooms that usually blend in with their surroundings. They could be behind doors, in shadows, or otherwise hard to find.
Chess Pieces are usually found out of the way in hard to get to places.
Blueprints are kind of the same as Chess Pieces, in that they are found in spots that you miss due to the game misdirecting you.
There are also literal easter eggs found in usually extremely hidden or hard to get to spots, but they do not count towards any collectible icons.
