Playing co-op without single player first

Hello, my partner and I would love to play the game together but we do not want to spoiler ourselves with single player first so we can select a level. Is there any way can play the game in co-op without having to do single player first?

You just need to start a new game and watch the opening cutscene. I recommend your partner do the same so they understand what is going on too. Once you load into a yellow room with instructions on the wall to turn around, you can safely return to the main menu and start multiplayer. You can progress through the game fine, but keep in mind that achievements and collectibles don't count during multiplayer, so will need to be done in single player.
