So, I hated the Stanley Parable demo (and so never bought it). But Antichamber is one of my top 10 games of all time.

Without really spoiling this game, is it likely I'll also enjoy this game?

Its neat, short and the writing is great. Pick it up on this months Humble Monthly if you haven't been planning to already.
Yeah, I think so. It's not really like Stanley, more like Antichamber (although not as hard, but still fun).

But I believe there is also a demo for this game, no? You may try it to see for yourself.

Sweet, thanks for the feedback y'all. I'm gonna go for it. It's on sale this week. Good to know that it's more like Antichamber. Trailer made me think so but...eh, wanted to be safe. I didn't see a demo earlier, at least not on Steam.

It strongly refers to Stanley Parable, mostly because of the omnipresent narrator commenting on everything you do with cliche Rick & Morty undertones. The only connection to Antichamber is obviously the puzzles, though every single one of them revolves around shaping reality by altering the object perspective (motto: "Perception is reality") and obviously mocking you for being a predictable subject on the way.

I was more of wondering about the gameplay itself. Is the gameplay like antichamber?

I don't really care about the narration. My issue with Stanley parable was in the demo, the game didn't seem that interesting or creative iirc.

The gameplay is a lot less obtuse than antichamber. There's no backtracking through previous areas since the game has a bigger focus on story, unlike most other escher-esque, mind bending puzzle games. I guess you could call it a lite version of Antichamber in terms of gameplay, with a nicer narrative akin to Portal than the myriad of basic platitudes you collect in Antichamber.

Yeah I decided to bite the bullet last night. The linear narrative akin to Portal is something I didn't anticipate but that's fine. I'm enjoying it so far, even though, as you said, it's Antichamber lite. It doesn't quite reach those levels of sophistication in terms of puzzle design or thematic and philosophical impact. It also doesn't feel as natural or well-written as Portal either...but an hour in, I think it's a worthy purchase.

I'm looking forward to see how the puzzles evolve.

Was surprised to see nobody said the big differentiation is the linearity compared to Antichamber's openness.

I played it today, completed it within two hours, so you may find you complete it quite soon if you've played an hour already!

Yeah I did check hltb.com before buying XD, 2-3 hours it said I think. So that matches up with your experience.

But yeah, regarding linearity it's very Portal-y in that regard. I guess I should have assumed that...but yeah that's a huge thing with antichamber, the quasi-openworldness lol. I'd been hoping there'd be a final hands-off section like in Portal but with how short this game is, I imagine that might not be the case.

It's an okay game, but it's hyped more than it delivers imo. I found it annoying that at some points it switches genres from puzzle game to something else. And it's also a great deal walking simulator. I wouldn't buy it unless it's on sale, ngl.

Heads up: Stanley Parable's demo is not contained in the final game, as they didn't want to spoil it. That one is fun too, though it's mostly about finding every ending (the game is short, there's a ton of endings and finding them requires doing unexpected things)
