Apple room with the big fan and double stairs

I'm not sure if my attemp was done in the creators intended way, but how did you got through?
I just spawned one big apple, steered and rolled it through the room with spawning smaller apples, pushing it against the wind of the fan to the middle section. There the apples also tended to slide to right were i intercepted one bigger apple, which i was able to push up the stairs. Is this, how it is supposed to be solved?

You were supposed to go upstairs and partially block the apple from your view and duplicate it

EDIT: there is nothing wrong with alternative solutions though, which are also fun lol
another option is to duplicate enough fire alarms until one hits the button
