Please tell me I'm missing something...
... but I'm under the impression that every single time you die facing the first boss, you have to crawl back through 20+ rooms, while taking damage and with little to no way of healing yourself, only to get your ass kicked again?

Is this game only designed for extremely hardcore gamers, or am I missing something?

For the first boss that's unfortunately how it goes, the rest usually have a lift not too far off. You can find the key for the lift in a small side area on the western edge about half way through the area.
Yes it sucks.

Wow, that's... Quite brutal and unfriendly of the game design!

Thanks for your answer though :-) at least now I know where I stand with this game!

This game is not hard when you explore.

After losing to first boss, just look at the map and find places you haven't been to yet.

Keep in mind character's abilities. (Blue one can slash blue membranes, red girl can jump on walls, mage guy can activate faces on walls that look like animal mouth with sphere in it.)

Also, you when you find rooms with small stone face in a middle, break it. You'll be damaged, but it's restore-able, and you get multiplier for orbs. Thanks to that, game became extremely easier just with a few respawns, as i got a lot of orbs which i used to level up my chars a lot.

Yeah I've moved past the first boss now (I think complaining here somehow motivated me not to give up) and it does get at bit easier to navigate the map after that, but still the lack of proper fast travel between campfires of or proper shortcuts is quite tedious... I guess I've been spoiled by Blasphemous, which really does that beautifully!

Thanks for your answers!

Nice!

Keep exploring, you'll find stuff that make traversing in this tower like a cakewalk ^^
