How to unlock the true ending? (Spoiler)

I have met old man three times and got the monster ball with wings.
However, I still can't save Algus...
Is it necessary to 100% this game? Do I need to complete the map, collect all the items including the keys and complete the bestiary?

You probably need to purchase the 3 visions of the dark knight´s past (still playing).

100% Map is required. There is an upgrade you can buy at some point for 15,000 that shows you the entire map so you can find missed rooms.

The rooms in the map will have white outlines but are not filled in. So basically the hidden rope leading down into the Dullahan at the Apex and a few other areas you might of missed will be shown. [spoiler/]

I didn't need to complete the bestiary to get the ending where Algus (at some point I'm going to not need to edit posts to change Albus to Algus. Damn you Dumbledore!) lives. I didn't even know there were multiple endings, though I suppose it makes sense that if you don't get the homculus the ending I got wouldn't have worked.

I don't understand why you'd need to 100% the castle map for that ending, though. Very "video gamey".

Yeah i am at 99% map and 100% items , i have bought the map reveal and cat find the final (?) room i am missing. I imagine is a unfilled room in the map that i cant see the map reveal pointing it because it cant be outlined. I have to cross reference a guide map cause i kinda hate to search it myself lol, cause it would require to visit all the adjusted rooms around a black one and there are quite a few possible ones..

edit: ok the room was on the map, i was blind i guess LOL

I'm just filling the map in myself, going to see the real ending then shelve the game for a while, come back later for boss rush (I read they're changing it).

The 100% map is essential. But when I clear the map, I collect all the items at the same time
So I don't sure if the 100% items is needed.

oh, it's really easy to get 100% map completion but not 100% items -- there are a few things, like a +Attack in the Mechanism, that are stuck behind obstacles that require upgrades from very late in the game. if you don't go back for them, the room will be checked off (but still have an "item here" marker if you have that upgrade).
