The board is a bit dead, I agree with you there, but the game is actually pretty good. I played the demo, got the game and thoroughly enjoyed my time with it.
There are a number of different mechs to repair, a stock market that you can invest in and play on to get more cash (the more shares you have in a company from the market, the bigger the bonus the company pays you when you repair their mechs) and once you have made a decent chunk of change you can even have your own mechs and send them out on missions of their own.
For $20 bucks or less depending on which store you get it from, this game is a steal.
P.S. You can even get into a mech and run through a calibration mission of which there are several types in first person view mode.
Wait for a summer/winter sale, not worth more than 5 bucks.
I'm playing the demo, and I can't put my finger on it, but the mouse control has issues. I've even dropped the sensitivity to half of the default.
As a writer, I'd like to suggest events like clientele showing up and pressuring you to "get it done yesterday or else!" Perhaps police conducting forensic investigations of criminal activity - not just YOUR criminal activity, but of clients' victimhood or criminality. You'd actually get some interesting story lines emerging.
