It depends on whether you like the Digimon series or not. If you're a Digimon fan, just evolving and collecting different cool Digimon makes this game fun enough to play 100+ hours. But if you're not that interested in Digimon, here are some of my honest words:
In terms of gameplay, this is just an average turn-based JRPG, you may found it boring if you not enjoy JRPG. If you don't like farming repeatly in a turn-based game, you not going to like it.
This game is a collection of two games (essentially the same game with different stories). In the first story, when the story progresses to a later stage, you can feel that the producers started to rush the work due to some reasons such as construction time or funds, and some scenes were over-reused. Most of the scenes in the second story were borrowed from the first story.
About half of the scenes in the game take place in Japan, and these scenes are made based on real street view in Japan. Maybe people who are familiar with Tokyo will have some special experience, I did not.
The visual design of the characters is very stylish, since the character design was handled by Suzuhito Yasuda, the artist of the light novel Durarara, so you can expect good stuff.
The plot is little bit of bland and is okay at best, some of the humor is too Japanese-style therefore hard to get if you are not a weeb.
The music is good, at least for me.
Digimons are cool, but only includes some of the most common and popular one. Also, the PSV version of this game was released in 2015, so new Digimon after that are not included.
This game is highly praised by the Digimon community, and that's majorly because this is pretty much the only decent stuff that community has gotten over last few years, rather than how good this game really is. Since I was a Digimon enthusiast, I can give this game an 8/10. But I wouldn't recommend it to people who are not interested in Digimon, or people who would be tortured by JRPGs.
played it way back when it first came out the first game was amazing i cant say anything on the 2nd one
Way too many Digimon games are like that. You could replace the digimon themselves with anything and it wouldn't really effect the plot of this game much.
The combat of this game isn't anything special or unique but I'd prefer if there were MORE focus on that if only because it's focusing more on the Digimon and not carrying on with people talking nonstop with only about 8% of any conversation being important to what you need to be doing (and even then there's an NPC that'll remind you if you start doing what I do and skip the dialogue)
Really wish more games were like Digimon World 1.
Story is frustrating af and combat shwallow as ♥♥♥♥ until lategame
so, not worth it, thank you
