Trying to Kill Ametair Glitch...
Went into Arduath to kill Ametair and get the boots (travelers quest). I get a few hits to where his health bar is now at half. Now, all he tells me is to go deeper and deeper into his lair and I go where the white circle is but he's disappeared, nowhere to be found. I can only hear his voice and see his health bar but him, gone in thin air. What's supposed to happen? I had already succeeded in eliminating half of his health bar on hard difficulty but now, I'll probably have to start all over cause this is definitely a glitch of some sort. Just another problem encountered along this journey...

Yes that's a bug in the game, do not attack him, before entering the next room with him.

If you strike him outside of the rooms in the adjoining areas (say with a ranged), he will run towards you and despawn before you hit the trigger area for the next part.
When you hit the trigger area, it will be messed up as a result.
His voice will come up and he will open the next area to you, but he will not spawn back.
The only way to fix it, is to go to your auto save (it makes one at the cave entrance) and start over.

Make sure when you are going from area to area, not to attack him until you are in the room he is waiting in.

I tried everything, including this advice, but it still didn't work.
What worked for me was to fight him without any sort of ongoing damage at all, just raw weapon damage (no poison, fire, ice, shock, etc.).

Ya come to think of it, when I did defeat him after re-running it because of the bug the first time, I only used my daggers, no ranged attacks. But I did still have my abilities on for poison and bleed damage. So maybe it's caused by a combination of what I said earlier and the weapon type, using a ranged weapon on him.

Seems strange tho, because if you get the persuasion check with him he gives you a necklace that increases ranged damage (+ other bonuses), right at the start.
That's why I used ranged on him the first time, when it bugged out.
But I had also shot him before the trigger, so just assumed that was the issue.

It was rashan's comment made me think of that.

Thanks a lot Carinth and rashan, I will try this trick for sure. If it worked for both of you, then that must be the resolution of the issue, using raw weapon damage. I'm a mage in the game and only use spells and chakrams so I will have to completely abandon these and go for something more warrior-like. I'll find something even if I have absolutely no points in those areas... But I know I'll be able to defeat him now with your knowledge. Thanks again guys, truly appreciated!

Greetings!
I hope this comment does not come too late, but I have the solution, I am leveling a rogue and required this mission, the same thing happened to me, but try again and try again until he appears normally in combat phase two, use poisons, all my ranged weapons (I actually killed him with bow) and was able to complete the mission, just reload the game as many times as needed at the beginning of the fight until it works, it only took me 4 times to try.

Thanks Dark Stigma, it's good to know about this trick also. I am presently stuck in a bug and can't continue the game but if they fix the bug, thus letting me go free, I will be able to complete the game but for now, I'm stuck and can't do anything. But thanks for the help, it's greatly appreciated.

I'm going to try. I'm having a similar issue where I can't start the second phase of the fight at all. He says to go deeper into his domain and I do, but nothing happens. I'm just stuck running around

I also ran into this kind of bug on hard. And it was right after I gave up on trying to find a workaround to get the bugged second set of “house of ballads” armor out of my inventory. Hekked me off and I almost quit playing but wanted to see if there was a way to kill the dang invisible guy. Saw y’all’s comments about the damage over time so I thought why not.

I reloaded my last save, turned off “envenomed edge” and used the first 3 hits of “Lifedrinker” trying not to proc the bleed. After killing the Maid of Windermere was so much trouble, I expected more. This fight was too easy once the bug didn’t proc.

Verdict: get rid of DoT to bypass the bug.

Well ... Had the same issue.
It really is so random ... I tried to load that save a lot of times ...
First 4 times it wasn't working. Afterwards it worked ... only to bug out another 2 times. Afterwards it worked 3 times. So erm ... yes ... I'm not sure it has something to do with dot effects.
I really love that game. But that damn bugs!
