if you live in europe maybe you can try to throw the name of your local law and refund rights at them, and you might get lucky. (but probably not)

ps.: Why you buy on GMG if its much cheaper on steam?
For me, it's that their pricing is in dollars as opposed to euros, so it usually tends to cost me a bit less.

Well, there is no difference to be seen visually.
No retailers can, only a games publisher can. That said a retailer could contact a publisher and have them request a specific key (or batch of keys) be revoked. However it's only in the publishers interests to do this when a product is provided on consignment. If a retailer instead buys a batch of keys its entirely on them to handle refunds/replacements.
