CreateTexture2D failed with error code 0x887a0020
I put in a bug report about this, attached the dxdiag to it, but I'm not holding out terribly much hope for that. I'll get the same crash within an hour at most after loading up my save (often within half an hour or even 20 minutes), always the same as the title:

"CreateTexture2D failed with error code 0x887a0020. An internal issue prevented the driver from carrying out the specified operation. The driver's state is probably suspect, and the application should not continue."

I ensured my drivers were up to date, followed the suggestions I found (turn off basically all the graphics settings, or lower them as far as you can), nothing so far has worked. Most of what I've found points back about a year ago, to September 2020. I made this thread in case someone else is having this issue now, or in case someone has other suggestions to try. Just to specify, I have Intel Iris graphics if that helps any.

I'll edit this if there are any significant updates, or successful fixes.

edit: according to one of the fateweavers on the discord (Axas) this is usually due to the integrated gpu not having enough virtual ram to support the game, and if I could use a dedicated gpu that'd be the normal suggestion; my laptop does not have a physical gpu to do that. After trying various things it still was crashing, so I'll do a clean GPU driver install tomorrow.

Final edit: To sum it up, the cause of this is my GPU; or rather, my lack of physical GPU. I have iGPU, so there isn't a dedicated physical GPU. This is apparently an issue stemming from that, and despite my best efforts it will still crash consistently.

I tried everything that I could, to no avail; I'll list the things anyone seeing this in the future can try if they have this issue:

1. lower all your graphics settings as low as you can, turn everything off. the only thing on should be graphics at "low" setting.
2. if you're on a laptop (with this issue you probably are) make sure it's plugged in and running at best performance.
3. go into the graphics settings and have koa.exe set to high performance, as well as have koa.exe set to run as admin; it probably won't do anything, but it will guarantee that the game itself is running as best it can.
4. try this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2235736081
5. if all else fails, use DDU and a fresh up to date driver installer to do a clean install; here's a link to a video I followed to make sure I did this right:

If it works for you, great- if not, after all the above steps, then I'm sad to say you're in my boat; you won't be able to play KoA on pc unless you're willing to constantly save and fight through the crashes. The easiest alternative is likely to get the game on playstation, xbox, switch, any other platform it's on where you don't have to worry about hardware or software issues (seeing as you don't control those on consoles).
